The chaos and uncertainty that has unfolded so far in 2025 surrounding credit union regulations has put credit union advocacy professionals to the test. In this episode of "Shared Accounts With CU Times", we catch up with Scott Simpson, CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues and the Utah Credit Union Association (who we first met in May 2024 when he appeared on the pod with his now retired predecessor, Diana Dykstra), and Stephanie Cuevas, SVP of Federal Government Affairs for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, to learn how they’re approaching advocacy in what’s shaping up to be an unprecedented year for the industry.
Simpson and Cuevas discuss what the Leagues are doing to help preserve the credit union tax exemption, share their thoughts on the anticipated cuts coming to the NCUA, and detail several other advocacy priorities that have been buried under the bigger political headlines of the year. You’ll also get the chance to get to know Cuevas, who worked in various government affairs roles at the federal and state level before joining the Leagues in 2023 and speaks passionately about her home town of Whittier, Calif.
