Tucson Federal Credit Union said Tuesday it will open a new branch this summer in Vail, 28 miles southeast of Tucson, and expects to open four others in the Tucson area over the next three years.

The Arizona credit union ($749 million in assets, 53,483 members) announced last October that it was planning to open a new branch in April in Oro Valley, 10 miles north of Tucson, and was planning to renovate five existing branches.

Now it has announced plans for the Vail branch and the four others, whose locations have not yet been determined.

Tucson FCU also said it has completed its first remodeling – the Midtown Branch in Tucson. It said it expects the other remodelings to be completed over the next two years.

A news release from the credit union said the remodel introduces the credit union’s new universal service model, replacing traditional teller lines with open, collaborative spaces. A lobby manager will personally greet members and guide them to a member advocate for personalized, “shoulder-to-shoulder” assistance.

A news release from the credit union said the approach is designed to empower “all TFCU employees to serve as account managers, comprehensively addressing members’ financial needs.”

“Our goal is to create a space where doing business feels like a partnership,” COO Krystal Adams said. “It’s about removing the barriers of traditional banking to foster a welcoming, one-stop-shop experience.”

Glenn Barks

First Community was among the first credit unions in the country to open a call center back in the 1980s.

“It’s been an integral part of serving members for over 30 years,” First Community President/CEO Glenn Barks said. “Having a second location helps us accommodate our staff living in St. Charles County. It also provides another source of business continuity should we face an unexpected disaster in Chesterfield. It’s just part of how we’re growing.”
