Bob Thurman
Bob Thurman, who served as president/CEO of the $1.6 billion Credit Union of America in Wichita, Kan., for 37 years, passed away on Feb. 4 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
He was 72.
Thurman began working part-time as a loan officer at Credit Union of America (CUA) in 1975 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business from Wichita State University in 1976. Five years later, in 1981, he was named president/CEO. He retired in 2017. At the end of that year, the credit union's 222 employees managed $805 million in assets, $682 million in loans and operated 14 locations serving nearly 66,000 members.
Thurman is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen (Smith) Thurman; his children, Derek Thurman (Danielle), Dustin Thurman and Brittany Hagar (Jared); four grandchildren; and two sisters.
