The League of Credit Unions (LSCU) & Affiliates has announced the launch of the Office of Small Credit Unions, a specialized initiative aimed at empowering credit unions with assets of $150 million or less. This dedicated resource hub is designed to provide essential tools and guidance to help small credit unions thrive in their communities.

Leading this effort is Susan Lee, a financial industry expert with over 15 years of experience, including three years as a credit union CEO. Her extensive knowledge and passion for supporting small credit unions position her as the ideal leader for this initiative.

According to LSCU & Affiliates, there are roughly 225 credit unions in its territory with assets of $150 million or less.

“Small credit unions are the backbone of their communities, providing personalized financial services and fostering local economic growth,” Samantha Beeler, president of LSCU & Affiliates, said. “With the launch of the Office of Small Credit Unions, we are taking a significant step forward in ensuring these institutions have the tools and support they need to be a reliable resource within their communities.”

The Office of Small Credit Unions offers a range of tailored resources, including online training programs, one-on-one consultations, a virtual community for peer collaboration and networking opportunities with leaders from similarly sized institutions. These initiatives aim to equip small credit unions with the skills and connections necessary to grow and sustain their operations.

“I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact small credit unions have on their members and communities,” Susan Lee, LSCU consultant and head of the Office of Small Credit Unions, said. “Our goal is to provide opportunities for small credit unions, which otherwise wouldn’t have the solutions needed to promote growth and sustainability.”

Lee added, "Our primary goal in the first year is to engage with as many small credit unions as possible to understand their unique needs and provide meaningful support. Additionally, we aim to establish a vibrant Small Credit Union Community within The League’s footprint, fostering collaboration, idea-sharing, and peer support. This community will connect leaders through both virtual and in-person opportunities, ensuring small credit unions have a strong network to navigate challenges and seize growth opportunities together."

The League’s commitment to small credit unions highlights its broader mission to strengthen the credit union movement at every level.
