The $2.8 billion, Dunedin, Fla.-based Achieva Credit Union became the third credit union serving Southwest Florida to receive the Juntos Avanzamos designation, the credit union announced Wednesday.

It joined Suncoast Credit Union ($17.8 billion, Tampa) and Tampa Bay Credit Union ($442 million, Tampa), as one of the few credit unions in the region with the designation reserved for credit unions committed to serving and empowering Hispanic and immigrant consumers.

Meaning “Together We Advance,” the Juntos Avanzamos designation was first developed by the Cornerstone League as a Hispanic outreach program in Texas and is now awarded by the New York, N.Y.-based Inclusiv, a certified CDFI intermediary. Approximately 145 credit unions in 33 states currently hold the designation, according to Inclusiv’s website.

Achieva said in the past year, it has provided $4.3 million in consumer loans to non-U.S. citizen residents and introduced a Spanish-language website and phone line. In addition, it expanded on its celebrated “Cash Class” financial education series to include Spanish-language webinars and in-person workshops.

“Our Hispanic and immigrant communities deserve more than just access to financial services – they deserve a partner who invests in their dreams and supports their journey toward prosperity,” Achieva Chief Marketing Officer David Oak said. “Earning the Juntos Avanzamos designation reflects our long-term commitment to being that partner, not only for the Hispanic community but for all our members. We’re honored to join this network of changemakers advancing financial empowerment across the nation.”

Inclusiv Program Officer Jean Carlos Rosario Mercado added, “On behalf of Inclusiv and our growing family of Juntos Avanzamos designated credit unions, we congratulate Achieva Credit Union for their commitment to financial inclusion for Hispanics and for recognizing the opportunities that lie in serving this community. By expanding access to affordable, responsible, and relevant products and services, Achieva provides effective, valuable, and highly needed tools to strengthen Hispanics’ abilities to build assets and multiply their contribution to local economies and the nation at large.”

To mark the designation, Achieva said it will be hosting a Proclamation Ceremony at a later date that will be open to members, community partners and the public. The $2.8 billion, Dunedin, Fla.-based Achieva Credit Union became the third credit union serving Southwest Florida to receive the Juntos Avanzamos designation, the credit union announced Wednesday.
