First Tech Federal Credit Union, the $17.5 billion credit union with headquarters in San Jose, Calif., and multiple locations in the Portland, Ore., metro area including a corporate office in the Portland suburb Hillsboro, has entered into a multi-year partnership with the Portland Timbers, Portland’s professional soccer team.

According to the credit union’s announcement Tuesday, the partnership includes the renaming of the suite level at Portland’s Providence Park, the Timbers’ home stadium, to the “First Tech Suites.” Located in the northwest corner of the stadium, the suites are tailored for groups of 10-25 people, with indoor and outdoor seating, additional standing room options and premier hospitality with hands-on service, First Tech said.

The partnership also includes special perks and game-day benefits for First Tech members, as well as financial literacy resources and comprehensive banking solutions for Timbers players, including First Tech’s Relocation Banking Services, through the Timbers development program.

What’s more, First Tech plans to launch community initiatives focused on inspiring interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) among youth and historically underrepresented groups in the tech industry while providing a platform to showcase emerging tech companies in the region, the credit union said.

“First Tech is driven by the same innovative spirit that fuels the tech industry, and we see sports as a powerful way to celebrate with our community and engage through this shared passion,” First Tech Vice President of Brand Marketing Mairi Burns said. “We are excited about our partnership with the Portland Timbers that aims to create memorable experiences beyond the typical banking relationship by offering First Tech members new ways to enhance their game-day experience with special access and surprises that delight.”

“First Tech is an innovative and successful company with local roots that we are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with for the first time,” Timbers CEO Heather Davis added. “This partnership will be a benefit to our community – from the fans to the players and beyond.”

The news followed First Tech’s October 2024 partnership announcement with two other Portland sports organizations: The city’s new Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team and the women’s soccer club Portland Thorns.

First Tech is poised to become the sixth-largest credit union in the nation if its proposed merger with the $12.1 billion Digital Federal Credit Union in Marlborough, Mass., is approved by members and regulators this year.
