Bruce Brumfield

Founders Federal Credit Union, based in Lancaster, S.C., announced Thursday that Bruce Brumfield, who has served as president/CEO for 22 years, plans to retire at the end of this year.

Keith Wilson

His successor, Keith Wilson, has been named president of South Carolina’s largest financial cooperative. To ensure a smooth transition, Brumfield will continue to serve as CEO until December.

During Brumfield’s tenure as CEO, from 2003 to the third quarter of 2024, the credit union’s assets increased from $943 million to $4.8 billion, loans grew from $731 million to $3.7 billion, and membership expanded from 130,051 to 271,061, according to NCUA Call Reports.

“This growth would not have been possible without Brumfield’s vision and commitment to innovation and member service,” Founders said in a prepared statement.

“We owe so much to Bruce for his leadership and where he has taken this credit union,” Founders Board Chair Roy Hunt said. “Having his knowledge and experience this year will make this transition as seamless as possible.”

Wilson joined Founders in 2000 as a regional vice president. In 2019, he was promoted to COO of the credit union’s branches and deposits.
As part of the leadership transition plan, Wilson became EVP in 2022 so he could work closely with Brumfield and better prepare himself for this next role, Founders said.

“Keith has a proven track record of management, integrity and commitment to member-focused growth, and I am confident he has what it takes to lead this credit union when I retire,” Brumfield said.

Founders’ 850 employees operate 44 offices across two states.
