Becky Smith

Members of the Board of Directors for the Edgewood, Md.-based APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) announced Tuesday that Becky Smith has been selected to take over as president/CEO beginning Jan. 29. Smith will be only the third such leader to guide APGFCU in its 87-year history.

Smith will succeed Don Lewis, who retired in June 2024 after 45 years at APGFCU ($2.3 billion in assets, 166,457 members) and nearly 30 years as CEO.

In a prepared statement, APGFCU Board Chairman Donald Burnett, COL (Ret) said, “Becky brings exceptional credentials and experience to APGFCU for member services and organizational growth. The board is confident she will lead our financial cooperative to empower member-owners in building generational wealth with member-focused services to achieve, prosper and grow.”

Concerning the new appointment, Smith said, “I am truly honored and excited to take on the role of president and CEO at APGFCU. It is a privilege to lead an organization so deeply committed to its members, employees and the community. I look forward to collaborating with our talented team to drive innovation, strengthen our services and continue making a meaningful impact for the communities we proudly serve.”

Prior to joining APGFCU, Smith served as EVP, chief revenue officer at the $5.7 billion SECU of Maryland. During her tenure at SECU, Smith also served as chief strategy and growth officer, SVP and chief marketing officer.
