The FBI seal.

An Alaskan man pleaded not guilty last week for allegedly robbing three credit union branches within three weeks in September and October, while he was on probation for a 2019 credit union heist.

According to court documents at U.S. District Court in Anchorage, Alaska, Sean Caranguain Javier, 36, allegedly used force, violence, and intimidation to steal roughly $650 from the $1.4 billion Credit Union 1's midtown branch in Anchorage on Sept. 23. Two weeks later, on Oct. 7, Javier allegedly stole $512 from the $11.4 billion Global Credit Union's Hartzell Road branch also in Anchorage, and on Oct. 16, he allegedly stole $2,000 the Global Credit Union Abbott Road branch in Anchorage.

In each robbery, the suspect presented a note demanding money to a credit union employee and stated he had a weapon, according to the FBI.

While the FBI was searching for Javier after the Oct. 16 robbery, he was arrested on Oct. 20 on a probation violation related to his 2020 conviction for robbing a Global Credit Union branch. After getting out of federal prison, he was placed on supervised release in May 2024. A month later, court filings showed he violated seven conditions of his probation, which led to his arrest.

Last month, a federal grand jury in Anchorage returned an indictment criminally charging Javier with the credit union robberies.

Although it is not clear as to whether Javier actually used a firearm during the credit union robberies, the November indictment charges him with possessing two firearms as a felon. In addition to his 2020 conviction, he was convicted of “stalking in the first degree” in 2013, Alaska’s state court records showed.
