CU Trade Groups Congratulate President-Elect Trump
America’s Credit Unions also says candidates it supported won at least 178 House and 10 Senate contests.
Credit union trade organizations congratulated Donald Trump Wednesday for winning the presidential election.
“America’s Credit Unions congratulates President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance on their hard-fought victory,” Jim Nussle, president and CEO of America’s Credit Unions said in a statement.
“We look forward to continuing to share the credit union difference with a Trump Administration and highlight credit union priorities — especially pursuing much-needed regulatory relief and protecting our tax status as Congress intended more than 90 years ago.”
The Defense Credit Union Council released a three-page letter sent to Trump Wednesday by president and CEO Anthony R. Hernandez. In it, he sought to meet with Trump or his transition team, noting Trump’s “focus on creating opportunities and reducing burdensome regulations.”
“We welcome the opportunity to meet with you or your transition team to discuss how DCUC can support your administration’s goals while promoting financial readiness and opportunity for our service members,” Hernandez wrote.
“Through our work, DCUC seeks to ensure that military members and veterans have access to essential financial services, whether they are stationed on a base or transitioning to civilian life,” Hernandez added. “As we continue to support the financial readiness and stability of our military communities, we hope to collaborate with your administration to address these regulatory challenges and strengthen financial protections for those who serve.”
In addition, Herandez noted Trump’s “commitment to addressing the needs of Americans, particularly our Nation’s service members, veterans, and their families, is inspiring and critically important,” adding that, “DCUC is a staunch advocate with over 60 years of experience representing defense credit unions nationwide. Our members collectively serve over 40 million members with an enduring mission to meet the unique financial needs of our military and veteran communities.”
Meanwhile, America’s Credit Unions’ news release noted that the election results showed “the 119th Congress will have a pro-credit union majority.”
America’s Credit Unions said it, its political action committee and state and regional credit union leagues spent more than $7 million “in bipartisan support of credit union champions” in the 2024 cycle.
Their candidates won 328 of the 331 races determined as of 2 p.m. Wednesday (165 Democrats and 163 Republicans), including 40 open seats (19 Democrats and 21 Republicans). Three candidates supported by the groups lost (two Democrats and one Republican) and seven seats had not been called.
“As a former Member of Congress, I know all too well the jitters that come from an election night,” Nussle said. “America’s Credit Unions, in partnership with the credit union leagues, proudly supported candidates from both sides of the aisle who support the credit union mission of affordable and safe financial services for all. We congratulate those who will fill the halls of the 119th Congress and look forward to engaging on the industry’s top priorities like our federal tax exemption status and interchange.”
