CU Branch Expansions Happening Down South
Randolph-Brooks FCU breaks ground for a branch near Dallas and Arkansas FCU opens another last week.
One credit union broke ground for a new branch near Dallas last week, while another credit union opened a new one in northeast Arkansas.
Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) of San Antonio ($17.7 billion in assets, 1.1 million members) held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 11 in Garland, 16 miles northeast of Dallas. It will be the credit union’s ninth in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and 64th overall when it opens in the summer of 2025.
RBFCU opened its first branch in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area in September 2014 in Plano, Texas. At the time, it had less than 6,000 members in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Membership in the Dallas-Fort Worth area surpassed 38,000 in 2019, and now it has more than 71,000 members in the area.
President/CEO Mark Sekula said the credit union prioritizes the financial well-being of its members over profit.
“RBFCU is dedicated to bringing the credit union advantage to the forefront of our operations, particularly in the vibrant community of Garland. We’re thrilled to extend our commitment to the Garland community,” Sekula said.
“This groundbreaking further exemplifies our ongoing commitment to serving our members in the communities where they reside by actively seeking opportunities to give back,” he said.
RBFCU now has seven branches in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area: two in Tarrant County and five in Collin County. Its Colony branch, which is under construction, will be its eighth in the Dallas area and its first in Denton County when it opens shortly before Garland by next summer. The Garland branch will be its first in Dallas County.
On Oct. 10, Arkansas Federal Credit Union of Little Rock, Ark. ($2.5 billion in assets, 157,862 members) held a grand opening for its new branch in Jonesboro, Ark., 130 miles northwest of Little Rock and 70 miles northwest of Memphis.
The credit union announced plans in May for the Jonesboro branch — its first in northeast Arkansas.
In a news release at the time, President/CEO Rodney Showmar said the credit union had planned “for some time” to expand to Jonesboro.
“We already have a sizeable membership base in Northeast Arkansas,” Showmar said. “The addition of this location allows us better to serve our members in Jonesboro and surrounding areas and expand upon a broader commitment to open new branches across the state.”
NCUA data showed the credit union had 22 branches and other locations on June 30, one more than a year earlier with its Rogers, Ark., branch that it began building in May. The 7,904-square-foot facility at 1003 S. 52nd St. is the first the credit union has built from the ground up in northwest Arkansas.
