Andrews Federal Promotes 5, Congratulates Hall of Honor Inductee

Plus, Signal Financial hires a new CFO and BHCSCU appoints a new board member.

The $408 million, Kensington, Md.-based Signal Financial Credit Union hired Brian Daskalovitz as CFO. Daskalovitz brings over 15 years of experience in financial management, strategic planning and operational efficiency. Prior to holding various finance leadership roles at NCRC and DreamSpring CDFI, Daskalovitz served as CFO for NextMark Federal Credit Union ($521 million, Fairfax, Va.) and vice president of finance for FedChoice Federal Credit Union ($430 million, Lanham, Md.). He also served as a financial services audit manager for RSM McGladrey and Clifton Larson Allen. Daskalovitz is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his MBA from the University of Baltimore’s Merrick School of Business. He received CU Times’ 2017 Trailblazer Award for CFO of the Year.

The $2.5 billion, Suitland, Md.-based Andrews Federal Credit Union announced five promotions and one recognition.

James Aldredge was promoted to vice president of deposit strategy and support services. Aldredge has been an employee at Andrews Federal for more than 30 years. During his tenure at the credit union, he has worked in multiple departments including deposit services, information technology and payment services.

Khalid Ali was promoted to vice president of lending operations. Ali has been employed at Andrews Federal for more than eight years and has played a key role in developing the credit union’s indirect lending programs.

Rachel Durastanti was promoted to vice president of digital banking. Durastanti has been a member of the Andrews Federal team for three years and led credit union industry tech initiatives for more than a decade. During her time at Andrews Federal, Durastanti also spearheaded multiple initiatives to enhance the credit union’s digital capabilities and build a stronger member experience.

James Niba was promoted to vice president of European operations. Niba has been a member of the Andrews Federal team for more than 16 years. In his new role, he will build on the experience and relationships he has developed through his work with the military communities Andrews Federal serves.

Denise Samuel was promoted to vice president of enterprise risk management. Samuel has been employed at Andrews Federal for more than seven years. In her new role, she will be responsible for developing programs and processes that help mitigate risk for the credit union.

Elijah “Bennie” Roberts

Elijah “Bennie” Roberts, director emeritus for Andrews Federal, was named to the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) Hall of Honor. This honor recognizes individuals in the credit union movement who have made significant contributions to both their respective credit union and the defense credit union industry as a whole. Roberts has contributed more than 32 years of volunteer service to the Andrews Federal Board of Directors. In addition, he has built an Air Force career as an expert in logistics. He served 33 years in the Air Force and currently works in a civilian role as a senior analyst in the Directorate of Logistics, Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection at the Pentagon. Roberts will be officially inducted into the DCUC Hall of Honor at the Hall of Honor Awards Dinner in St. Petersburg, Fla., on August 15, 2024.

Jeshahnton (Shaun) V. Essex

The $81.2 million, Dallas, Texas-based Baylor Health Care System Credit Union appointed Jeshahnton (Shaun) V. Essex to its Board of Directors. Essex was appointed at BHCSCU’s June meeting to serve for an unexpired portion of a term created by a vacancy. Currently serving as COO for Baylor Scott & White Health – BUMC, Essex brings 19 years of experience mastering health care operational excellence while consistently delivering hospital and system-level initiatives for patients, consumers, stakeholders and board members.
