Leaders and staff at the $4.8 billion, Lake Jackson, Texas-based TDECU are mourning the loss of longtime staff member and board member Peggy Horn Miltenberger, who died on June 23 after serving on the TDECU Board for more than 30 years, the credit union announced Tuesday.

Miltenberger first joined the staff of TDECU as a loan officer during the 69-year-old credit union’s early days. After helping many of her friends and neighbors secure loans, they elected her to serve as a director on the TDECU Board in 1993.

According to TDECU, Miltenberger demonstrated visionary leadership and unwavering commitment as a director, often reminding leaders that the credit union was created by workers who united to support a colleague and how that spirit of community should guide all their decisions.

“For many people, Peggy was synonymous with TDECU,” TDECU Board Chairman Dave Sikora stated. “I joined the board in 2015, and words can’t describe my admiration for her, as well as her knowledge and passion for the credit union movement. She always brought unique insights and filled the room with sunshine and a positive attitude.”

Born in 1938 in Alabama, Miltenberger and her family moved to Texas when she was 10 years old. A celebration of life ceremony was held on June 29, and according to TDECU, she passed away with her family by her side, leaving behind four children, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
