In Memoriam: 44-Year Wescom Board Member Will J. Brown
To honor Brown, the California credit union is awarding $10,000 in grants to state nonprofits.
Will J. Brown, longtime board member for the $6.2 billion, Pasadena, Calif.-based Wescom Credit Union, passed away in late February 2024, the credit union announced last week.
Brown served the Wescom Board of Directors for more than four decades. He was first appointed to the board in 1980, and throughout his tenure, he served as chairman, as vice chairman and on various board committees. In 2011, he was named director emeritus.
Wescom said it will be honoring Brown in two notable ways. First, the credit union is dedicating three grants totaling $10,000 to Southern California nonprofits. Second, it is dedicating a tee box plaque at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena, Calif., which will be engraved to read, “In Memory of Will J. Brown, Brookside Marshall, Wescom Board of Directors.” An avid golfer, Brown served as a Marshall at Brookside Golf Course, which is located adjacent to Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Stadium.
In addition to serving on the Wescom Board, Brown was an executive with AT&T and a founding member of the company’s internal organization, C.I.T.I.E.S. (Community Involvement Team In Every Sector), which was created to encourage, prepare and mentor minority employees of AT&T to pursue leadership positions, according to Wescom.
