The NCUA's Miguel Polanco joins us on this episode of "Shared Accounts With CU Times" to talk about his position as head of the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion at the agency. The thing is, his position is very interesting because it carries the weight of Congress with a vision of doing what's best for the NCUA and hopefully setting an example for the entire credit union industry.
Polanco has served in this position for more than a decade and he speaks candidly about how our credit union world has and continues to change as it relates to creating a more inclusive environment.
We break down a recent NCUA report to Congress that lays out the DEI successes and struggles at the agency. Along with that, Polanco shares his thoughts on the importance of the industry's eighth cooperative principle and how he's watching it evolve.
Polanco talks about his time at the United States Military Academy at West Point and how it shaped some of his thinking (and he doesn't miss doing push ups). He also gives us a taste of his home island of Puerto Rico.
