Tony L. Black, CEO of Houston’s BCM FCU, Dies
A memorial will be held on April 2 for Black, who passed away unexpectedly last month at age 62.
Tony L. Black, CEO for the $42 million, Houston, Texas-based Baylor College of Medicine Federal Credit Union, died unexpectedly at the age of 62 on March 16, 2024, according to statements from the African American Credit Union Coalition and Cornerstone League.
Black served at the helm of BCM FCU since 1997 and was also the owner of Kiddie Kolleges in Houston. What’s more, he contributed his time to the AACUC for more than 20 years, most recently serving as secretary of the Texas Regional Chapter since 2021, where “he worked towards empowering others and fostering inclusivity within the credit union movement,” according to the AACUC.
“Tony’s kindness, leadership and infectious smile will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him,” the AACUC’s statement read. “In this time of sorrow, we will cherish the memories we shared with Tony and honor his remarkable life by continuing his legacy of kindness, compassion and service.”
The Cornerstone League, which represents credit unions in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, added that Black was an active member of the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions, as well as served on the Cornerstone Resources Board of Directors from 2013-2019 and its Audit Committee from 2015-2019. He was a frequent contributor to the CEO Roundtables and Houston chapter meetings, the League said.
“We at Cornerstone extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and coworkers. May his memory live on through the many lives he touched and inspired,” according to the League’s statement.
A tribute and memorial service for Black will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at Brentwood Baptist Church located at 13033 Landmark St. in Houston. A gathering will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Central Time followed by a service from noon to 1 p.m., according to the AACUC.
