The $1 billion SCE Credit Union in Irwindale, Calif., located about 20 miles east of Los Angeles in Los Angeles County, announced a $1 million investment that aims to improve financial lives in the nearly 10 million-resident county.

SCE FCU committed to a five-year partnership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (YMCA-LA), during which time the credit union's $1 million contribution will fund financial education programs, resources and benefits to YMCA members, staff and the wider community, SCE FCU said. In addition, the partnership will open up opportunities for the community in the areas of volunteerism, mentorship, marketing and community event participation. And, SCE FCU will serve as the credit union of choice for the YMCA-LA's 1,700 employees.

To commemorate the new partnership, on March 21 SCE FCU presented a $1 million check to YMCA-LA at the organization's Weingart East Los Angeles location and held the first of many community financial education workshops the credit union plans to host over the next five years.

"Today marks the beginning of a historic partnership that has the potential to transform communities throughout L.A. County. This partnership gives access to financial education  to members, staff and the community at large, unlocking infinite opportunities for individuals to make smart fiscal decisions to build a stable economic future, in turn, strengthening our community's well-being," YMCA-LA President/CEO Victor Dominguez said at the event. "We thank SCE Credit Union for their incredible partnership and investment in the YMCA-LA and Los Angeles."

"We are proud to make this investment in the YMCA-LA, their members and the community they serve because we are dedicated to supporting and promoting the financial well-being of all individuals across Los Angeles County," SCE FCU President/CEO Jennifer Oliver added. "This partnership is the perfect representation of our mission and goals in action, and we are thrilled to bring our services to such a storied organization in our community."

SCE FCU is a designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) serving 67,440 members.
