The Chartway Promise Foundation, the charitable arm of the $2.8 billion, Virginia Beach, Va.-based Chartway Credit Union, spent 2023 raising money through fundraising events and securing donations from corporations and individuals. As a result of these efforts, the Foundation's board approved $1 million in grants that will be awarded this year to 22 organizations supporting medically fragile children.

"One million dollars in charitable grants can make a huge difference not just for these medically fragile children but their families as well," Christine Wilson, president of the Chartway Promise Foundation, stated. "When we think about the health conditions these young heroes and their families face, we know we can bring joy to them with backyard playsets, opportunities to attend camp, funding for dream trips and experiences, adaptive equipment and so much more. Thanks to those who support us, we have the resources to alleviate stress and bring smiles to these children and their families."

The grant recipients include one organization in Texas, Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast, and six in Utah: Ability Found, Best Seat in the House, Children's Miracle Network, Eyecare for Kids, Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital and Make-A-Wish Utah.

The remaining 15 organizations are based in Virginia: Children's Assistive Technology Services (C.A.T.S.), Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Easterseals UCP, the Eliza Hope Foundation, Families of Autistic Children of Tidewater (FACT), Hooked on Hope VB, the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI), Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia, Medical Mercy Angels, Momadvocate, Roc Solid, St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, Team Hoyt VB, Toby's Dream Foundation and VersAbility.

"We have a responsibility to give back to our communities, and that's something we take seriously," Wayne Foshay, board chair for the Chartway Promise Foundation, stated. "Through partnerships with companion charities, business partners, sponsors and contributors, Chartway's charitable arm has awarded nearly $15 million for charitable grants since 2005. With 2023's $1 million in grant awards, we've extended our reach farther into the communities we serve to strengthen and empower those who need it most."

Chartway has received a number of accolades for its charitable work, including the Virginia Credit Union League's Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in 2023.
