Nussle Selects 6 Executive Leaders for America’s Credit Unions
Carrie Hunt will depart the Virginia League to join the team; five appointees currently serve at CUNA or NAFCU.
On Nov. 2, members of CUNA and NAFCU voted to approve the proposed merger between their two organizations, creating a single credit union trade association called America’s Credit Unions. Today, credit union leaders learned who will be in charge of the new association with the announcement of six America’s Credit Unions executive leadership appointments.
Jim Nussle, who is president/CEO of CUNA and will serve as president/CEO of America’s Credit Unions beginning Jan. 1, 2024, said the new leaders “will shape the vision of a strong, united voice for the credit union industry among policymakers in Washington, D.C., and across the country.”
Jill Tomalin will serve as EVP for America’s Credit Unions. Tomalin has more than 30 years of experience within the credit union industry and currently serves as EVP and COO for CUNA. In her new role, she will oversee membership and engagement, communications and marketing, operations and finance, and association services.
Carrie Hunt will serve as chief advocacy officer. Hunt has 20 years of experience in consumer finance and financial services law, credit union regulations and association lobbying. She currently serves as president/CEO of the Virginia Credit Union League.
In a separate announcement, the Virginia League said Hunt will leave her current position to serve at America’s Credit Unions beginning March 1, 2024.
“Carrie’s leadership enabled the League to reach new heights as the champion for Virginia-based credit unions and as a national leader in advocating for the advancement of all credit unions,” said Joe Thomas, who is the League’s chairman and president/CEO of NextMark Credit Union ($528 million, Fairfax, Va.). “We appreciate Carrie’s service during the past three years in the Commonwealth, and we’re pleased that her work on behalf of credit unions will continue on the national stage.”
Anthony Demangone will serve as chief membership and engagement officer. Demangone has served the credit union industry for more than two decades and brings significant compliance and legal expertise. He currently serves as EVP and COO at NAFCU.
Eddie Rivera will serve as COO and CFO. Rivera has served the credit union industry for nearly 30 years and brings a deep understanding of business operations, including the importance of collaborative relationships with external partners and internal departments. Rivera currently serves as CFO at CUNA.
Meghan Burris Small will serve as chief communications and marketing officer. Small has more than a decade of experience in financial services and regulatory policy communications. She currently serves as vice president of communications and media relations at NAFCU.
Todd Spiczenski will serve as chief association services officer. Spiczenski has more than 30 years of experience in credit union member services. He currently serves as EVP and chief products and services officer at CUNA.
“America’s Credit Unions will push the boundaries of the credit union industry forward. I am excited to announce this group of leaders who will propel the new association to be a powerful advocate for our industry,” Nussle said. “This team is ready to hit the ground running to advance one, united voice. With nearly 140 million American consumers and Main Street small businesses choosing credit unions as their financial institution, we will work hard to ensure they are getting the level of service, stability and trust they need to achieve their financial goals. Our number one priority will always be the interests of our credit union members.”
