Detroit-Area Credit Union Opening Three Branches
Michigan Schools and Government CU opens one branch and has two others planned for 2024.
Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union announced Tuesday it has expanded with a new branch in Rochester Hills, Mich., and plans to open two more in the Detroit area next year.
At least five other credit unions have also recently opened branches from South Florida to Washington State.
NCUA data showed MSGCU of Clinton Township, Mich. ($3.5 billion in assets, 148,202 members) had 19 branches on Sept. 30, one more than a year earlier. Its newest branch opened Nov. 20 at Rochester Hills, which is 20 miles west of Clinton Township and 28 miles north of Detroit.
“We are proud to be a part of the Rochester Hills community and are excited to serve new and current members at our seventh branch office in Oakland County, and 20th branch office across metro Detroit, which is a significant milestone for the credit union and our members,” MSGCU President/CEO Steve Brewer said.
Kevin Goldstein serves as branch manager and is a Rochester Hills resident. Goldstein joined MSGCU in 2019 and has 18 years of experience in the financial services industry.
MSGCU plans to expand further by opening branches next year in Shelby Township, 32 miles north of Detroit, and in Ann Arbor, 43 miles west of Detroit.
Educational Federal Credit Union of Miami ($1.6 billion in assets, 98948 members) announced Monday it will open a new branch early next year in Broward County, its first branch outside Miami-Dade County.
“EdFed continues to experience tremendous growth, and our credit union has a large population of members living in Broward County,” President/CEO Michael DiBenedetto said. “Our new Miramar Park Place branch is an ideal location to serve our existing members while providing new members in the community with convenient access to EdFed’s outstanding loan and deposit account benefits.”
Other recent branch expansion announcements included:
- Sabine Federal Credit Union of Orange, Texas ($231.7 million in assets, 14,425 members), which announced Nov. 30 it will open a new branch next year in a former Wells Fargo in Beaumont in Jefferson County, 42 miles northwest of Orange.
- Wescom Central Credit Union of Pasadena, Calif. ($5.9 billion in assets, 227,345 members), which opened a new branch Nov. 17 on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. The branch, which will serve the broader West Los Angeles community, is located on the ground floor of a new mixed-use, UCLA Housing building complex at 11776 Santa Monica Blvd. This new branch is in addition to the full-service branch located on the UCLA campus in the Ackerman Student Union building.
- Gesa Credit Union of Richland, Wash. ($5.5 billion in assets, 287,836 members), which opened a new student-run branch Nov. 27 at Renton High School near Seattle. It is Gesa’s 13th student-run branch. Students and staff can make transactions during designated parts of the school day.
- First New York Federal Credit Union of Albany, N.Y. ($449.9 million in assets, 35,621 members), which opened a new student-run branch Dec. 7 at Mohonasen High School in Rotterdam, N.Y., 17 miles northwest of Albany. It will be called the Legacy Branch, a name selected by Mohonasen students.
