Eighty-seven years after University of Texas faculty and staff founded University Federal Credit Union (UFCU), the credit union has been named the official trusted banking partner of those who call the University of Texas at Austin their employer, according to announcements last week by UFCU and UT Austin.

As UT Austin’s trusted banking partner, the $4.7 billion, Austin-based UFCU will provide faculty and staff with more immediate access to specialized UFCU financial services, competitive loans, unique mortgage solutions and robust financial education programs to boost financial success, according to the credit union.

UT Austin said the partnership, which is a key component of its 10-year strategic plan, will help employees learn how to make better-educated financial decisions as well as leverage a range of financial products customized to their needs. Offerings to UT Austin employees will include specialty mortgage loans, pre-approved car loans, and financial education and literacy seminars.

The university noted that UFCU has been a longtime supporter and partner of UT Austin, and that it has already been providing financial education to UT employees for many years through the University’s HealthPoint Wellness program.

“As an organization dedicated to the welfare of our faculty and staff, we actively seek innovative partnerships to increase affordability and provide unique value to our faculty and staff,” UT Austin Vice President of People and Talent Roger Cude said. “We are excited by this latest partnership with UFCU, which has been a trusted financial services partner for our faculty and staff for many years. Through custom financial products and tailored financial education opportunities, UFCU is well-positioned to provide value and support to our community.”

UFCU President/CEO Michael Crowl commented, “Founded by UT faculty and staff, our past is inexplicably tied to UT. We are honored that UT continues to place great trust in UFCU as we deepen our relationship through this announcement. We understand that financial stability is a key to financial success, and through this partnership, UFCU will continue to work alongside UT to build tools to ensure each member is prepared and equipped to focus on building a better tomorrow. At UFCU, our mission is always to improve the lives of our members, and we are excited about the opportunity to do even more for the UT community in the coming years.”

UT Austin plans to hold an information session on Dec. 13 for faculty and staff interested in learning more about the partnership and UFCU’s offerings.
