UFCU of Texas Opens Branch in Fast-Growing Area
Credit unions also announce branch expansions in Ohio, Alabama and New York.
The credit union that had its start at the University of Texas in Austin has expanded into a northern suburb that is among the nation’s fastest-growing communities.
University Federal Credit Union ($4 billion in assets, 371,909 members) on Monday opened a new branch in Georgetown, Texas, 30 miles north of Austin.
The branch is designed in a “living room” setting with ample comfortable seating and private consultation areas. Employees with personal tablets move around the room to serve members.
The branch also has a 24/7 drive-thru and walk-up ATM, a self-serve coin-counting machine and safe deposit boxes.
“At UFCU, we’re focused on providing financial and banking services that help improve the financial success of Central Texans, and we’re excited to serve the Georgetown community and help more people achieve their goals,” Branch Manager Lisa Brady said. “As a long-time member of the growing Georgetown community myself, I’m thrilled to help UFCU open its doors and become an integral partner to this city.”
Last spring UFCU expanded in Georgetown by adding to its field of membership the private liberal arts college Southwestern University, the state’s oldest.
Census data showed Georgetown’s population grew from 14,842 in 1990 to 28,339 in 2000, 67,176 in 2020 and an estimated 86,507 in 2022.
“Georgetown is the fastest growing city in the country, and we’re honored to be a part of this impressive community,” EVP of Member Experience Chris Turnley said.
“As cities grow and change, it’s vital to ensure the financial success of residents, employees and businesses,” Turnley said. “We hope the opening of this new branch and the inclusion of Southwestern University in our field of membership will solidify UFCU as a community partner invested in the financial prosperity of the City of Georgetown as it continues to thrive.”
Three other credit unions have announced branch expansions:
1. Atomic Credit Union of Piketon, Ohio ($622.8 million in assets, 71,667 members), which plans to open a new branch Dec. 1 in Hillsboro, Ohio, 40 miles west of its headquarters. It is the credit union’s 17th branch and first in Highland County.
2. New Horizons Credit Union of Mobile, Ala. ($263.9 million in assets, 23,084 members), which opened a branch Nov. 15 in Mobile. The new 2,000-square-foot branch has three drive-up lanes, a deposit capable ATM and a touch screen information area. “After conducting a market study, New Horizons Credit Union officials chose the Cottage Hill Road area to build their first-ever, ground up new branch making this their seventh branch location,” according to the credit union’s news release.
3. Visions Federal Credit Union of Endicott, N.Y. ($5.7 billion in assets, 256,086 members), which opened a branch Nov. 15 in Reading, N.Y., 65 miles northwest of Endicott.
Visions President/CEO Ty Muse said the expansion shows the credit union’s commitment to growing membership and fostering local partnerships within Berks County and the surrounding communities.
“We’re excited to help more members and strengthen our roots here in downtown Reading,” Muse said. “This area’s revitalization is to be celebrated and is the perfect opportunity for us to help people grow in their financial well-being.”
The new branch will have a walk-up ATM and private office space to support account transactions, membership applications and loan services.
