The $124 million, Washington, D.C.-based Labor Credit Union announced the passing of its board chair, Dr. Kevin Jackson Ph.D, Thursday.

Dr. Kevin Jackson

Jackson joined the Labor CU board in 2014 and was appointed chair in 2021. According to the credit union, during Jackson’s two-and-a-half years as chair of the board, Labor CU expanded its field of membership to multiple underserved groups and organizations, including students and faculty of the University of the District of Columbia and members of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement. In addition, Jackson was responsible for the vision behind the credit union’s newly-established 501(c)3 organization, The Labor Community Foundation, whose mission is to help create opportunities to empower individuals and help them grow in their career development.

“Kevin was a remarkable leader. His commitment to serving, his passion for teaching and compassion for others were unmatched. With every interaction Kevin had with someone, he would motivate, encourage, inspire, challenge, celebrate and appreciate the people around him. He made us all better. He will be deeply missed,” Labor CU President/CEO Thomas Domingue stated.

To honor Jackson, Labor CU said it will be launching The Kevin Jackson scholarship program, which will help underserved and underprivileged young adults further their education and career development skills. Donations to the new scholarship fund can be made via the Labor Community Foundation Donation website.

The vice chair of Labor CU’s board, Webster Coleman, will assume the position of chair.
