Less than a month after announcing a significant merger agreement, the Pasadena, Calif.-based Wescom Credit Union has significantly expanded its field of membership to include 13 new counties, which would bring the credit union’s potential membership to include nearly 27.7 million people in the state.

On Tuesday, officials with Wescom ($6 billion in assets, 224,155 members) said its membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in any of the following additional 13 counties: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Mariposa, Monterey, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus and Tulare.

“By expanding our field of membership in an adjacent market, we are able to serve more Californians and make a positive impact in additional communities,” said Darren Williams, Wescom president/CEO. “We are looking forward to this next stage of growth which aligns perfectly with our mission to exceed expectations in everything we do through innovative products and services.”

Geographically, Wescom’s new field of membership map takes the credit union from the border with Mexico in the south, all the way up to the north just below the San Francisco and Silicon Valley areas, according to the credit union.

Last month, Wescom announced it entered into a merger agreement with Seaside, Calif.-based Central Coast Federal Credit Union ($174 million in assets, 15,005 members). If approved by members and regulators, the merger would also expand Wescom’s field of membership. Officials expect the merger to go into effect by the second quarter of 2024, if approved.
