Heidi Metz, a former member service representative for a Pennsylvania credit union, pleaded not guilty to one felony count of embezzlement during a hearing at U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh last week.

A federal grand jury alleged in an indictment that Metz, 40, of California, Pa., allegedly embezzled $41,000 from the $22.7 million Cal-Ed Federal Credit Union in Coal Center, Pa. from June 2021 to September 2022.

Metz allegedly removed cash from her teller drawer and allegedly falsified the cash drawer to vault documentation by forging the initials of another Cal-Ed FCU employee, according to the indictment. She allegedly spent the stolen funds on personal expenditures.

Federal prosecutors do not say how the embezzlement was detected.

Her court-appointed defense attorney did not respond to a CU Times request for comment.

Metz was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond until her next court hearing.
