The $141 million Telco Triad Community Credit Union in Sioux City, Iowa will officially mark its designation as a Juntos Avanzamos credit union later this month. Juntos Avanzamos, which means “Together We Advance” in Spanish, is a designation awarded by certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) intermediary Inclusiv to credit unions that are committed to serving and empowering Hispanic consumers.

Telco Triad is the sixth credit union in Iowa – and the first in Northwest Iowa – to earn the designation. Approximately 130 credit unions nationwide hold the Juntos Avanzamos designation.

According to Telco Triad, the credit union has been working to help Hispanic and immigrant communities in its member service area, which remain largely unbanked and vulnerable to predatory financial services, to thrive by offering affordable, transparent, and responsible products and services.

“We welcome Telco Triad to an effort that is now more important than ever. This Juntos Avanzamos designation recognizes the groundbreaking work you and your team have done to meet the needs of low-income consumers in general, and of the Hispanic community in particular. This is what financial inclusion is all about, and you are leading the way,” Inclusiv Director Puerto Rico Network Rene A. Vargas Martinez said in a prepared statement to the credit union.

The credit union will commemorate the designation at a Juntos Avanzamos Proclamation Ceremony, during which the Juntos Avanzamos flag will be raised and Telco Triad President/CEO Andrew G. Barriger will make remarks, on Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at its Morningside Branch in Sioux City.

The designation followed two other recent announcements of new Juntos Avanzamos credit unions this month: UW Credit Union ($5 billion, Madison, Wis.) and Embold Credit Union ($607 million, Milwaukie, Ore.).
