credit union merger questions Credit/Shutterstock

On Wednesday, emails were sent out to credit union CEOs who are members of CUNA and NAFCU to invite them to a series of forums to discuss the proposed merger that would create America's Credit Unions.

According to CUNA, there will be three virtual forums offered, depending on the type of membership: NAFCU-only members, CUNA-only members and those who are members of both organizations.

A CUNA spokesperson provided the following schedule for the forums:

  • Sept. 27, 2:00 PM ET – CEO Forum: NAFCU-Only Members
  • Oct. 4, 2:00 PM ET – CEO Forum: CUNA-Only Members
  • Oct. 11, 2:00 PM ET – CEO Forum: Dual Members of NAFCU and CUNA

Each session will include an update on the proposed merger, as well as a question-and-answer session featuring questions submitted by CEOs.

In the email to credit union leaders, Nussle said CUNA and NAFCU members' "feedback and ideas are critical in helping America's Credit Unions best serve your credit union and your members."

Voting by CUNA and NAFCU members on the merger proposal opened on Aug. 28 and will close at 5 p.m. EST on Nov. 1.

NAFCU President/CEO Dan Berger and CUNA's Nussle announced the merger plans on Aug. 1. If approved, Nussle will lead the new organization, America's Credit Unions. Berger plans to step aside to pursue other opportunities at the end of 2023.

If approved by members, it's expected the merger will be legally official by January 2024.
