Jim Kasch will become the next president/CEO of the Kentucky Credit Union league (KCUL), the trade group's board of directors said Tuesday.

Current KCUL President/CEO Debbie Painter is retiring after serving nearly five years at the top post. She launched her credit union career in 1979 at the $1.2 billion Abound Federal Credit Union in Radcliff, Ky., (formerly Fort Knox Federal Credit Union). She joined KCUL in 2000 and served as its director of governmental affairs and EVP.

"Kentucky's credit unions are well-positioned for a bright future with Jim building on the legacy of great leaders before him here in Kentucky," said KCUL Board Chair Larry Lucas, who is president/CEO of the $369 million Ashland Credit Union in Ashland. "The Kentucky Credit Union League has always been known for exceptional advocacy. As that tradition continues, the league board was also seeking a president/CEO who will ensure an independent, sustainable future for our state trade association. Jim's entrepreneurial spirit, focus on collaboration, and passion for credit unions combine to make him an exceptional choice to lead."

Kasch's professional background includes more than 20 years of credit union experience.
