AmeriCU Credit Union Gets Approval for Massive FOM Expansion
The credit union’s membership area expands to potentially serve millions of people.
Tucked in the small community of Rome, N.Y., just to the east of Onedia Lake and about 20 miles outside of Syracuse sits a potential giant of a credit union – AmeriCU Credit Union.
On Wednesday, the $2.7 billion AmeriCU announced the New York State Department of Financial Services approved the credit union’s field of membership expansion into 15 additional counties in the central portion of the state.
According to NCUA data, AmeriCU has 159,187 members. This expansion of the field of membership now covers 24 counties with a potential service population of nearly 2.2 million people.
In a statement, AmeriCU President/CEO Ron Belle said his team is looking forward to helping more members, business and communities with its financial products and services.
“We are excited to expand our field of membership to promote financial education, stability and growth, as well as present greater opportunities within each community,” Belle said. “By extending our footprint, we can offer solutions to address the unique financial needs of more communities, individuals, families and businesses, fostering growth and development in New York and beyond.”
According to Wednesday’s statement, AmeriCU’s field of membership will include the following counties in New York: Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Clinton, Cortland, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Montgomery, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Schoharie, Seneca, Tioga, Tompkins and Wayne.
