New SVP Joins Harborstone CU & Sandia Laboratory FCU Hires Chief People Officer

Aaron Vallely

Hawaii State Federal Credit Union ($2.3 billion, Honolulu), announced three promotions.

Aaron Vallely was promoted to EVP. In his new role, Vallely is responsible for leading the operations and retail experience teams across various divisions, including branch experience, operations support, card operations, digital solutions, branch support and fraud. Vallely has been with Hawaii State FCU for more than 27 years and has held multiple roles, including main branch manager, director of sales and branch administration, and vice president of sales and branch administration. Before joining Hawaii State FCU, he served as a branch manager at Central Pacific Bank and Bank of Hawaii.

Warren Altona

Warren Altona was promoted to EVP of commercial and retail banking strategy. In his new role, Altona leads the credit union’s commercial banking, product management and retail analytics, marketing and enterprise project management. He previously served as the product strategy and retail analytics division manager, managing deposits, loans, payment products and analytics for Hawaii State FCU. Prior to joining Hawaii State FCU, Altona spent more than 15 years at Bank of Hawaii in various leadership positions. Altona holds an MBA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Christopher Hodges was promoted to SVP and CFO. In his new role, Hodges is responsible for the credit union’s financial analysis, asset liability management, investment portfolio management and vendor risk management. He has more than 10 years of banking experience and most recently served as vice president and deputy CFO for Hawaii State FCU. He previously held positions at First Hawaiian Bank, HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union ($2.3 billion, Honolulu) and Bank of Hawaii.

Christopher Hodges

The $3.4 billion, Albuquerque, N.M.-based Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union hired Christine “Chris” Linford as chief people officer. In her new position, Linford will play a crucial role in shaping the credit union’s strategic framework and operational roadmap. She will also be responsible for helping foster a “best places to work” environment in the markets SLFCU serves, ensuring employees feel supported and engaged, and have opportunities for professional growth. Linford’s previous experience includes positions as SVP and chief people officer for a Utah-based bank; vice president of human resources for a credit union with more than 100 branch locations in six different states; and SVP and director of human resources for a bank in Washington, D.C. She has also served as an employment and human resources consultant. Linford holds a certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Institute.

Harborstone Credit Union ($1.8 billion, Lakewood, Wash.) hired Tim Hoefel as SVP and chief banking officer. In his new role, he will oversee the credit union’s retail banking division and contact center. Hoefel began his career in financial institutions over 20 years ago and has worked as a branch manager, district manager, area manager and retail regional director. He most recently served as SVP and commercial and business banking director at Umpqua Bank. Hoefel attended the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. In addition, he is a board member for Junior Achievement of Washington and vice president for the nonprofit Communities in Schools of Kent in Kent, Wash.

Patty Corkery

The American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) appointed Patty Corkery, CEO of the Michigan Credit Union League, to its executive board. The AACUL is the national association for the state and regional credit union leagues/associations throughout the U.S. Corkery’s board appointment is for one year, expiring at the end of 2023. She joined MCUL in 2018 as EVP/COO and general counsel before becoming the first-ever woman to lead the League as CEO in 2021. Corkery also serves on the board of the Credit Union House, a special events venue on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., that is owned by every statewide credit union association/league and the AACUL.
