The fourth largest credit unions in Pennsylvania and Arizona announced CEO transitions on Monday.
Jeff March, president/CEO of Citadel Federal Credit Union in Exton, Pa., plans to retire at the end of the year after a successor is selected. In Arizona, the $1.8 billion Hughes Federal Credit Union in Tucson appointed Andrew Britton president/CEO, succeeding Robert Swick, who recently retired from the top job.
March joined Citadel in 1983 and was appointed CEO in 2001.
During his leadership tenure, Citadel increased assets from $411 million at the end of 2001 to its current assets of $5.7 billion, while loans grew from $373 million to $4.9 billion and membership expanded from 76,452 to nearly 255,000, according to the credit union's NCUA Call Reports.
"This decision is never an easy one to make, but I know that Citadel is at its strongest, and I'm so proud of all we've accomplished and the many talented people I've had the honor of working with," March said in a prepared statement. "In 22 years as CEO, every expectation I've had for this company has been exceeded – whether it be financial, technology, growth of our team, or investing back in our members and community. I have every confidence Citadel is on a path to even greater growth and success."
Citadel's 539 employees operate 25 locations.
The search for March's successor is underway with the goal of naming a new CEO in the coming months following a transition period, the credit union said.
Britton joined Hughes in 2003 and most recently served as the credit union's EVP of lending before he was named CEO.
As a pivotal member of the leadership team, Britton helped Hughes increase loans from $286 million in 2010 to $1.7 billion in 2023, according to the credit union's NCUA Call Reports.
"Andrew is a leader who inspires confidence in others and has navigated unprecedented growth and stability at Hughes," Hughes Board Chair Juan Gonzalez said in a prepared statement. "Our board and employees look forward to continued growth and stability while helping our members improve their financial lives under his leadership."
Britton's management style focuses on empowering employees to be successful and recognizing their professionalism and commitment to the financial well-being of Hughes members.
"I believe in taking care of our staff so they, in turn, will take excellent care of those we serve," he said.
The credit union's 277 employees operate seven locations throughout Tucson and serve more than 178,000 members.
Citadel and Hughes are ranked fourth largest by assets in their respective states, according Depositaccounts.com.
