Harper Sent Home From Hospital After Medical Tests Come Back 'Normal'
An NCUA spokesperson says Harper will resume his normal schedule on Friday.
UPDATE: 2:23 P.M. EST:
After feeling unwell during the opening minutes of Thursday’s NCUA board meeting, Chairman Todd Harper left the meeting and sought a medical evaluation at an area hospital.
NCUA spokesperson Joseph Adamoli issued the following update concerning Chairman Harper’s condition: “After experiencing sudden pain in his stomach and chest, Chairman Harper sought a medical evaluation. The Chairman was sent home after all tests were found normal. He looks forward to resuming his schedule tomorrow.”
In the first minutes into Harper’s opening statements concerning the fallout from the Silicon Valley Bank, Harper began to seem uncomfortable and repositioned himself in his chair. He said, “The NCUA is well positioned to address … I ne … um … I need to take a break if that’s OK?”
Harper looked back to one of his assistants who escorted him out of the room.
Minutes later, Harper returned to finish his opening statements. “Thank you so much for that short break,” he said and continued speaking. Harper left the meeting shortly after testimony began to finalize the subordinated debt rule.
Vice Chairman Kyle Hauptman and Board Member Rodney Hood finished the meeting and voted 2-0 to pass the final rule.
