Wisconsin CU Merger Finalized
The newly-merged credit unions in northwest Wisconsin will serve nearly 40,000 members.
Superior, Wis., sits at the most northwestern edge of the state and is home to the newest credit union merger finalized in 2023. In a statement Friday, officials with Superior Choice announced it had finalized the merger with Hayward Community Credit Union (HCCU), located about an hour south in the small city of Hayward.
According to the statement, 88% of the HCCU membership voted in favor of the merger.
The combined credit union will now operate under the Superior Choice Credit Union (SCCU) name and will have a combined asset size just shy of $800 million serving more than 37,000 members.
The two credit unions received approval to merge from the NCUA in the third quarter of 2022.
All branches, including the two HCCU branches in Hayward and Cable, will remain in operation and all employees from both organizations will be retained.
According to the statement, “The next step for the newly combined financial institution will be to fully integrate operations, products, services, policies, technology” as well as converting the two HCCU branches to SCCU branches “in the coming months.”
