Howard Sherrer and Beth Carr

Beth Carr, president/CEO for the $182 million, Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Santa Cruz Community Credit Union, and Howard Sherrer, board chair for Santa Cruz Community, each received an award during the California-Nevada Credit Union League Awards Ceremony on Nov. 3. Carr received the 2022 Social Impact Award, which honors individuals who demonstrate an unyielding dedication to building stronger communities and improving members’ lives. Sherrer received the 2022 J. Alvin George Outstanding Volunteer Award, which honors significant contributions by people who serve credit unions in volunteer capacities.

Kelly Outwater

The $6.4 billion, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based Hudson Valley Credit Union announced three promotions.

Kelly Outwater was promoted to vice president of marketing. Outwater has over 20 years of experience in financial services, having joined HVCU in 1999 as advertising and promotions manager. She most recently served as assistant vice president of marketing operations for HVCU. In 2013, she was recognized as an ATHENA Honoree by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and holds a master’s of science in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University, as well as digital marketing certifications from Columbia Business School and London Business School.

Brian Welsh was promoted to vice president of information technology. Welsh has over 20 years of experience in financial services, having joined HVCU in 2001 as a branch financial services representative. He went on to hold roles in IT and business performance with increasing managerial responsibility, and most recently served as assistant vice president of organizational excellence and business performance. He holds a master’s of science in management information systems from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, and is a graduate of The Chamber Foundation’s Executive Leadership program and NYU’s Communication Strategies of Developing Leadership Presence.

Rachel Braun

Rachel Braun was promoted to assistant vice president of collections. Braun has nearly 15 years of experience in financial services, having joined HVCU in 2008 as an assistant teller team leader. Since then, she has held roles with increasing responsibility in retail branches, real estate and most recently in the collections department as collections manager. She has also held volunteer positions with the New York Credit Union Association’s Catskill-Hudson District chapter and received her MBA in organizational leadership from Ashford University in Chandler, Ariz. In addition, Braun serves on Together Dutchess County’s board of directors, was recognized as a 40 Under 40 Mover and Shaker by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2020 and as an Orange County Rising Star in 2015, and is a graduate of the 2019 Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress Fellows Program.

Evens Bonny

The $204 million SkyPoint Credit Union in Germantown, Md., announced three new hires.

Evens Bonny was hired as manager of the credit union’s Silver Spring, Md., branch. Bonny brings over 25 years of consumer/commercial banking experience to SkyPoint. In his new position, he will play a key role in sharing his leadership, management skills and small business acumen with his team to drive SkyPoint’s effort to expand its presence in the Silver Spring market.

Alejandro Barrios was hired as manager of the Rockville, Md., branch. Barrio brings over six years of experience in banking and managing member relationships. Prior to joining SkyPoint, he was named the winner of the 2021 Valiant Award and has also been named one of the top tellers in Maryland.

Jason Cooke was hired as accounting manager and will be based at the credit union’s Germantown headquarters. Cooke brings over 18 years of experience in accounting and banking to his new role.
