Tennessee’s Lifeway Credit Union Launches Name Change on Oct. 1
Lifeway CU also plans to move its central office from Nashville to Brentwood.
The $46.1 million Lifeway Credit Union in Tennessee said it is changing its name to Koin Credit Union on Oct. 1.
The credit union also announced it will be moving its central office from Nashville to Brentwood on Oct. 11.
The choice of the new brand name, Koin, is rooted in the Greek word “koinonia,” which is used throughout the Bible’s New Testament to describe fellowship and community among Christians, according to Lifeway.
The credit union was established in 1954 to serve the financial needs of employees of the Baptist Sunday School Board, which became Lifeway Christian Resources in 1998, the media publishing organization of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S.
While Koin will continue to serve Lifeway’s current employees and retirees, the credit union’s President/CEO Doug Clinton said that they are actively gathering faith-based employers and churches that are interested in doing business with the credit union.
Lifeway’s eight employees serve more than 2,000 members. The credit union posted a potential membership of 4,236, according to its second quarter NCUA Call Report.
The credit union said in its prepared statement that Koin signifies an important brand shift that aligns with the credit union’s goals in providing a modern and impactful experience with digital financial solutions for members. However, the credit union added that its basic purpose of offering financial solutions based on “Christ-centered stewardship” to help members maximize their financial well-being remains unchanged.
