8 Credit Unions Hire, Promote & Honor

WEST

Cheryl Adamson

The $5.4 billion, Richland, Wash.-based Gesa Credit Union promoted Cheryl Adamson to EVP of legal and administration, general counsel. She previously served as vice president, general counsel for Gesa. Adamson has more than 30 years of experience working in private practice with an emphasis on commercial litigation, business representation and insurance matters. In her new role, Adamson will provide legal counsel, support and guidance to the credit union, as well as oversee the vendor management, business continuity management, enterprise risk management, compliance, human resources and team engagement divisions. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Washington School of Law, and prior to joining Gesa in 2021, Adamson practiced at Rettig Forgette Iller Adamson LLP in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State and Bohrnsen Stocker Smith Luciani Adamson PLLC in Spokane, Wash.

Wendy Beth Oliver

OnPoint Community Credit Union ($9.4 billion, Portland, Ore.) hired Wendy Beth Oliver as SVP and chief legal officer. In her new role, Oliver leads OnPoint’s legal strategy and team, aligns its legal and business goals, and advises the credit union on corporate governance, contracts, compliance and regulatory issues. She brings more than 30 years of experience as a legal advisor in the financial services industry, providing outside counsel for a range of financial services companies, including banks, mortgage and small business firms, and a fintech startup. Before joining OnPoint, she held general counsel and chief compliance officer positions at Grit Financial Inc. and Aven, a California-based fintech startup. She holds a Juris Doctorate from Duke University School of Law in Durham, N.C., and a master’s in public administration from the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, where she was a Gramlich Fellow. In addition, she serves on the vestry of St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Portland and the Oregon State Bar’s Client Security Fund Committee.

June Manning

June Manning, the leader of the Co-op Capital microlending program for the $3.8 billion, Albuquerque, N.M.-based Nusenda Credit Union, was named as a 40 Under Forty honoree by the Santa Fe (N.M.) Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and will be recognized at the upcoming Business Leaders event at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center on Sept. 30. In her current role at Nusenda, Manning helps provide access to equitable capital to New Mexicans who often can’t get affordable loans through traditional banking. She currently serves on the National Asset Funders Network Committee and is a former member of the Nusenda Foundation board and MANA Del Norte board of directors in Santa Fe.

Patrice Mustafa

The $954 million, Los Angeles-based Water and Power Community Credit Union promoted Patrice Mustafa to vice president and COO. Mustafa began her career at the credit union 22 years ago, starting as a contact center representative and later moving on to serve in the operations department, followed by as a branch manager, senior business development officer, director of branches, and vice president of sales and lending.

Gregory Edwards

The $140 million, Laurel, Md.-based Market USA Federal Credit Union promoted Gregg Edwards to chief lending officer. In his new role, he will oversee both lending and collections at the credit union. Edwards originally joined Market USA as the lending manager in 2016 and was promoted to director of lending and later to vice president of lending. In 2017, he was named the CUNA Lending Council’s Rising Star in Lending, and in 2021 he received the Maryland DC Credit Union Association’s Miriam Rivera Lieb Emerging Leader award. He has over 13 years of banking experience and holds multiple industry certifications, including Certified Credit Union Executive, Commercial Banking Credit Analyst and Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor.

Lisa McGuinness

The $382 million, Oceanside, N.Y.-based Ocean Financial Federal Credit Union appointed Lisa C. McGuinness as chair of its board of directors, the first woman to hold the position. McGuinness has served as a member of Ocean Financial’s board of directors for approximately seven years, first as a volunteer for the supervisory committee then as a board director starting in 2019. She began her career at Dime Savings Bank, where she assisted in the programming of its first ATM Machines. She later held executive leadership roles at Estée Lauder as executive director of the IT risk and compliance division, Avon as senior manager of global risk management and compliance, and Cole Haan leading the IT risk management and compliance practice.

MIDWEST

Dusty Hurtgen

The $4.2 billion, Eau Claire, Wis.-based Royal Credit Union hired Dustin Hurtgen as vice president – senior commercial loan officer. In his new position, Hurtgen will provide expertise, mentoring and guidance to business department team members in relation to structuring and approving commercial loans. Hurtgen comes to Royal with over 23 years of experience in financial services. He holds an advanced business communications certificate from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and completed the Graduate School of Banking program at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In addition, he is a board member for REACH Inc. in Eau Claire and is a planning commissioner for the Town of Washington in Eau Claire County.

Tracy Beam

The $985 million Alabama ONE Credit Union in Tuscaloosa, Ala., hired Tracy Beam as director of human resources. Beam brings over 28 years of all-encompassing HR experience in the finance, commercial and manufacturing industries. In her new role, she will be tasked with overseeing all HR activities, in addition to ensuring that personnel functions are uniformly applied.
