Summit CU Lands Naming Rights Deal
A new University of Wisconsin stadium space will be named the “Summit Credit Union Fifth Quarter Patio.”
Summit Credit Union in Cottage Grove, Wis., has inked a naming rights deal for a new stadium space at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the $4.9 billion credit union announced Tuesday.
According to the announcement, Summit became the first naming rights partner of the newly-renovated south end zone at the university’s Camp Randall Stadium. The new venue, which will be the setting of University of Wisconsin Badger football events, weddings, business meetings and other social events, will carry the name “Summit Credit Union Fifth Quarter Patio.” The “Fifth Quarter” is a longtime Badger football game tradition in which the UW Band puts on a raucous post-game show for enthusiastic fans, according to the university marching band’s website.
The space, designed to “bring the outdoor tailgate experience into Camp Randall,” will also feature multiple bars and private concessions, with the UW Field House arena serving as the backdrop, Summit said.
LEARFIELD, UW’s multimedia rightsholder, and its locally-based Badger Sports Properties, have been managing the naming rights partnership along with UW’s entire athletics administration, the announcement said. Financial terms of the partnership were not publicly disclosed.
“We are delighted to welcome Summit Credit Union as our first naming rights partner for the new Camp Randall south end zone we’ll be unveiling to fans soon,” UW Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh stated. “We’re honored to have one of Madison’s legacy businesses founded in 1935 support our mission of elevating the lives of our student athletes and our athletic programs.”
Summit President/CEO Kim Sponem added, “Camp Randall has a tradition as a gathering place in Wisconsin, epitomizing the Wisconsin Idea that promotes bringing people together in many ways. It’s exciting to see the expansion of opportunities to experience Camp Randall to all comers by offering a venue for weddings, business meetings and social events – in addition to an awesome place to be part of Jump Around.”
“Jump Around” is another UW football tradition in which fans dance to the House of Pain song of the same name during games.
