The $1.8 billion Communication Federal Credit Union in Oklahoma City announced it received approval from the NCUA to expand its field of membership to include underserved portions of Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

The credit union currently serves more than 114,000 members and as of Aug. 26, is able to provide financial products and services to all residents, organizations and businesses in the new areas of the two markets. It's unclear how expansive the new service areas are for potential membership growth for the credit union.

According to a statement from Communication, "The credit union believes its products and services and outstanding record of member service will positively impact the lives of additional prospective members and underserved area residents who before now, would not have been eligible to join the credit union."

Communication President/CEO Larry Shropshire said, "We are excited and welcome the opportunity to serve additional residents of the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas. Communication FCU has a proud history of exceptional service and looks forward to extending this record of trust and member relationships to new members in these communities."

According to Communication, the consulting group Dollar Associates, LLC assisted the credit union in working with the NCUA to expand the FOM.
