Credit Unions Golf, Race & Show Cars to Help Kids in Need

The latest Community news also includes a Girl Scouts program grant and the construction of a veterans tiny home community.

Ascentra CU

The Ascentra Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of the $530 million, Bettendorf, Iowa-based Ascentra Credit Union, contributed a three-year, $45,000 grant to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois to help fund the continuation of its Girl Scouts Community Outreach Series. ACUF has helped fund the program, which gives young girls in the underserved areas of Moline, Rock Island, Davenport and Muscatine, Iowa a chance to be a Girl Scout, since 2020. BHFCU

Black Hills Federal Credit Union ($1.9 billion, Rapid City, S.D.) recently contributed $50,000 to the Veterans Community Project (VCP) in Sioux Falls, S.D., to construct a tiny home in the VCP Village, a specialized Sioux Falls community of 25 tiny homes with onsite services to help homeless veterans return to an independent life. As construction gets underway, BHFCU staff will assist with building the sponsored tiny home. First Tech CU

Participants of the Credit Unions for Kids Northwest Classic golf tournament eagerly await the event’s shotgun start at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore., on July 11. The tournament, founded 22 years ago by the $15.8 billion, San Jose, Calif.-based First Tech Federal Credit Union, raised over $1.6 million for six regional children’s hospitals in California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington as part of the credit union’s annual Credit Unions for Kids fundraising campaign, and drew participation from First Tech employees and members, business leaders and credit unions across the region.

Massachusetts CUs

Members of the Cooperative Credit Union Association’s Massachusetts Credit Unions Social Responsibility Committee present a check for $240,000 to their charitable partner, the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, in support of its “A Bed for Every Child” program. The funds were raised during the Stephen Jones Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament, which the Committee hosted on June 23 in Northborough, Mass. A Bed for Every Child began in 2012 and helps supply beds for children whose families cannot afford to buy one.

New Dimensions FCU

New Dimensions Federal Credit Union ($209 million, Waterville, Maine) hosted its 8th Annual Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show at the Lafleur Airport in Waterville on June 4, raising a record-high amount of $20,240.66. With the addition of a CO-OP Miracle Match of $10,000, the total amount raised was $30,240.66 for 2022. New Dimensions hosts the event each year to raise money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program (MCCP), an affiliate of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Scarborough, Maine. Visions FCU

The $5.5 billion Visions Federal Credit Union in Endwell, N.Y., held its fifth annual 4 on the 4th Road Race at its headquarters on July 4, hosting over 400 members of the community; additional runners participated virtually. Visions raised $1,690 during the race to benefit the Southern Tier Community Center in Endicott, N.Y., a division of Children’s Home, and made a capital commitment of $50,000 to help fund facility enhancements and renovations at the center.
