CUs in the Midwest, East Reveal Hires, Promotions & Award Recipients

MIDWEST

Kyle Hunt

The $96.5 million, Des Moines, Iowa-based Serve Credit Union announced one new hire and two promotions.

Kyle Hunt was hired as professional development coordinator. In his new role, Hunt will lead the onboarding of new staff and develop training plans for positions and individual learning styles. He is also one of the newest board members for the Central Iowa Chapter of Credit Unions.

Jordan Dean

Jordan Dean was promoted from member relationship officer to financial services officer at the credit union’s Court Avenue branch in Des Moines. In her new role, Dean will be preparing loans full-time and splitting extra duties such as account/membership openings and credit and debit card maintenance with other financial services officers. She is a recent graduate of the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s Financial Coach program, and will leverage the skills from this program into her new role and serve as the credit union’s financial coach for graduates of its the Blue Shoe Box program.

Dani Tool

Dani Tool was promoted from member service representative to financial services officer at the Court Avenue branch. Tool is also a new board member for the Central Iowa Chapter of Credit Unions.

The $1.8 billion Consumers Credit Union in Kalamazoo, Mich., announced one new hire and one promotion.

Mohammed Haque was hired as a credit card product specialist. In his new role, Haque will use current and future trends to develop new strategies that will help more people learn about Consumers’ credit card products. He brings several years of experience working with credit cards at a large national bank.

Jordan Higgins

Jordan Higgins was promoted to junior business development manager. In his new role, Higgins will support local prospective and current entrepreneurs navigating the world of business lending and finance. He joined Consumers in January 2021 and brings past experience working as a credit analyst.

EAST

The $4.9 billion SECU in Linthicum, Md., announced an award recipient and a new hire.

Steve Arbaugh

Steve Arbaugh, SVP of finance and CFO for SECU, was named 2022 Professional of the Year by the CUNA Finance Council. The award honors an individual who exemplifies excellence in credit union financial management, and recognizes individuals who consistently excel for the benefit of their employer and the advancement of the credit union movement. Prior to joining SECU in 2008, Arbaugh spent 30 years in commercial banking. He served as past chairman of the CUNA Finance Council, where he also served as chairman of the membership and regulatory Committees, and on the CUNA Finance Council’s executive committee. In addition, he co-founded the MD|DC Credit Union Association’s CFO Roundtable, and served as previous chairman of the Maryland Council on Economic Education, on the board of the Maryland Coalition for Financial Literacy and as past treasurer of the board of the Credit Union Foundation of MD|DC.

Aaron Thompson

Aaron Thompson Jr. was hired as an LPL Financial Advisor for SECU Financial Partners, the financial planning and investment arm of SECU. Thompson is a Certified Financial Planner with more than a decade of advising experience. In his new role, he will provide clients with comprehensive financial planning in the areas of retirement planning, asset management and personal risk, as well as tax and estate planning strategies. In addition, he will contribute to SECU Financial Partner’s holistic approach to financial planning, offering a partnership between advisor and credit union member in support of their overarching financial goals. Most recently, Thompson served as an independent financial advisor with Securities Management & Research. Early in his career, he joined Mutual of Omaha’s sales force as a life insurance agent, where he received a “Rising Star” award, and subsequently worked with ING Financial Partners as a financial advisor serving the employees of the District of Columbia Government Retirement plans.

The $320 million First Capital Federal Credit Union in York, Pa., announced two award recipients.

Lisa Barshinger

Community and Business Development Manager Lisa Barshinger was named the CrossState Credit Union Association’s 2022 Credit Union Ambassador during the CrossState Annual Conference, held May 22-24, 2022 in Atlantic City, N.J. For her submission into the annual Credit Union Ambassador contest, Barshinger’s project discussed Financial Wellness Wednesdays, a virtual forum created during the pandemic where employees at First Capital’s business partners could go to talk to someone from the credit union. As the winner, she will represent CrossState at association events for the next year. Barshinger started her career in the credit union industry in 2004 and has been with First Capital in a business development capacity for the last 10 years. She serves as the York County Economic Alliance Ambassador chair and the West York Area School District Foundation board president.

Stewart Olewiler, III

Board Chair Stewart Olewiler, III was named the 2022 Credit Union Volunteer of the Year during the CrossState Annual Conference. Olewiler’s award came as he celebrates 33 years of service on First Capital’s board of directors, 30 of those as board chair.

Amy Rush

Amy Rush was hired as general counsel for the $4.6 billion, Lenexa, Kan.-based CommunityAmerica Credit Union’s CUSO One, LLC and Copper Financial, a Registered Investment Advisor firm and wholly-owned subsidiary of the credit union. In her new role, Rush will provide legal advice and support surrounding the companies’ financial services offerings, business strategy and risk management. She will also support all entities under CUSO One, the parent organization. She most recently served as SVP and associate general counsel of regulatory affairs for Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. and currently serves on the board of Flourish Furnishing, LLC in Grandview, Mo. In addition, Rush regularly speaks at industry conferences on topics such as vulnerable adult financial abuse, financial industry regulatory updates and broker dealer/investment advisor regulatory matters, and is admitted to practice law in Missouri and Kansas.
