Kyle Gurzynski will become president/CEO of Filer Credit Union in Manistee, Mich., in April, the board of directors said.

He will succeed Patty Preuss, who plans to retire after 28 years of service.

Preuss joined Filer as a teller, moved up to member services and became the credit union’s first IT specialist. She also served as a manager of a branch, operations and lending before becoming CEO in 2009.

During her CEO tenure, Filer grew its assets from $74.6 million in 2009 to its current assets of $216 million, while membership expanded from 7,688 to 10,713, according to the credit union’s Call Reports.

“Filer Credit Union has been fortunate to have Patty’s consistent leadership, her unwavering vision, her commitment to excellence, and her focus on member service, which has made our credit union one of the top financial institutions in Manistee County for seven years in a row,” Filer Board Chair Wayne Bernier said.

Until her retirement date on April 29, Preuss will work with Gurzynski to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Gurzynski, who has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently served as EVP for the $115 million Safe Harbor Credit Union in Ludington, Mich., where he oversaw branch operations, marketing, financial education outreach, asset liability management, human resources and community partnerships.

Filer is the longest tenured financial institution in Manistee County, opening its doors in 1951 in an office at the American Box Board Company, currently PCA.

The credit union’s 35 employees operate three branches.
