The Aurora, Colo.-based the District Credit Union announced its Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Bouras has been named the new president/CEO of the $149 million organization.

Bouras, whose new job began Jan. 1, took over for the retiring CEO Brad Johnson.

In a statement, Bouras said, "This position is exactly what I've been working toward throughout my career, and I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead the District Credit Union. Brad Johnson gave me some advice early on to put the work in and good things will follow. Brad's shoes are big ones to fill, and our team and I are here to put in the work that will make even more good things happen."

According to information from the credit union, Bouras has served the credit union industry for 23 years. His time at the District has focused on increasing the credit union's asset value, adding technology upgrades and a spearheading the credit union's rebranding strategy. Formerly Aurora Schools Federal Credit Union, the District currently serves 7,526 members.

Suzanne Acheson, chairperson of the board of directors, said, "Steve has demonstrated his commitment to building a strong financial institution. He will continue that focus as he forges an even stronger culture of serving our members."
