CUNA Adds Another Economist

CUNA has hired Ligia Vado, a specialist in risk, insurance and mortgage markets, as a senior economist.

A news release from CUNA said Vado brings more than 20 years of experience in economics and financial policy research, delivering results for national and global organizations. Her skills include developing robust data science solutions, machine learning models and quantitative analysis.

Vado is the newest addition to CUNA’s Research & Policy Analysis team, which focuses on research and data analytics to support CUNA’s advocacy efforts.

“We’re thrilled to have Ligia join our team,” CUNA Chief Economist Mike Schenk said. “From her policy analysis experience to her data visualization skills, Ligia is an exceptional professional with a terrific background and a passion for credit unions.”

He added, “Ligia brings a fresh, keen perspective to the credit union movement. Her contributions will help strengthen the research that drives our advocacy.”

Her LinkedIn profile showed that she was was an insights and analytics services analyst at CUNA Mutual Group from 2017 to 2020, an analyst for the World Bank Group from 2011 to 2013, and visiting research economist at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2011.

Vado completed her doctoral degree at North Carolina State University and earned master’s degrees in economics from both North Carolina State University and Texas Tech University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Thomas More University in Nicaragua.
