Employees Elevate Careers With New Roles & Honors

Eight credit unions, plus leagues and tech vendors, announce People news this week.

WEST

Emily Quatman

Bay Federal Credit Union ($1.5 billion, Capitola, Calif.) promoted Emily Quatman to assistant vice president of investment services at LPL Financial Advisor. Quatman joined the investment services team at Bay Fed in 2020. She has more than 14 years of financial services experience and was an investment advisor representative at a large national bank for nine years.

The $4.6 billion, Richland, Wash.-based Gesa Credit Union promoted Cheryl Brown to EVP of member support and service. Brown has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 10 at Gesa, where she most recently served as vice president of operations and program management.

She previously worked at Bank of the Cascades as vice president, applications manager and Banner Bank as a project manager. In her new role, Brown will provide direction and support for all projects and solutions that support Gesa’s strategic plans, as well as collaborate with the executive management team and other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective solutions.

Orange County’s Credit Union ($2.3 billion, Santa Ana, Calif.) hired three new executives.

Fabiana Burkett

Fabiana Burkett was hired as vice president of enterprise risk management. In her new role, Burkett will lead a strong focus on aligning an effective enterprise risk management framework with the credit union’s strategic growth plan. She brings over 20 years of experience in credit union regulatory compliance and risk management, and holds credentials such as Certified Chief Executive, Credit Union Enterprise Risk Management Expert, Credit Union Compliance Expert and Credit Union Development Educator.

Tim Kim was hired as assistant vice president of the call center. In his new role, Kim will lead and develop highly-engaged and strong-performing teams, with a direct focus on providing exceptional service to members. He brings over 20 years of experience and an extensive background in strategic design and call center operations.

Jeannine Tuchscherer was hired as assistant vice president of the project portfolio management office. In her new role, Tuchscherer will lead the credit union by standardizing core process and governance framework to support enterprise-wide project management. Her background includes roles in business analysis, account management and corporate training.

The $2.7 billion Pawtucket Credit Union in Pawtucket, R.I., announced one new hire and two promotions.

Kevin Farrell

Kevin Farrell was hired as SVP of commercial lending and mortgage originations. In his new role, he is responsible for the management and growth of the credit union’s commercial loan portfolio including real estate and business lending. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day activities of the department, he is also charged with adherence to regulatory requirements and procedural development. Farrell previously held the position of market manager/EVP at Customers Bank, and has held leadership positions at Sovereign Bank/Banco Santander and Fleet Bank/Bank of America. He currently serves on the RI Bankers Association Board of Directors, Miriam Hospital Annual Gala Committee and the St. Jude Parish Audit Committee.

Amy DiGuilio

Amy DiGuilio was promoted to assistant vice president of retail lending. In her new role, she oversees the underwriting functions of home equity, direct consumer loan and indirect marine lending activities for the credit union in addition to supervising the retail lending department. DiGuilio has been with the credit union for nearly 22 years and most recently served as retail lending supervisor.

Michael Silva was promoted to assistant vice president of IT support and service desk. In his new role, his overall responsibilities include managing the first line response of IT matters with all business lines within the credit union. Silva has 22 years of experience in the IT support field and most recently served as IT service desk manager for PCU.

Amy Holgerson

The $660 million, Gardner, Mass.-based GFA Federal Credit Union promoted Amy Holgerson to assistant vice president/residential lending officer. Holgerson, who brings over 15 years of experience, began her career at GFA in 2016 as a closing coordinator and was promoted to residential underwriter just a few months later. In her new role, she will work with the residential team in a fast yet compliant manner to provide the best member experience possible, and will oversee all aspects of the home buying process including processing, underwriting, closing and post-closing.

MIDWEST

Blake Herring

The $1 billion Marine Credit Union in La Crosse, Wis., hired Blake Herring as chief human resources officer. Herring has more than 30 years of HR leadership experience in multiple industries, having held roles at GMAC Residential Capital, UnitedHealth Group, The Schwans Food Company and the Taylor Corporation. In his new role, he will support Marine’s focus on the employee experience and oversee talent, human capital, and payroll and benefits.

SOUTH

Zac Streelman

The $905 million REV Federal Credit Union in Summerville, S.C., hired Zac Streelman as chief technology officer. Streelman brings over 25 years of experience and a very specific skillset with an emphasis in software development, datacenter virtualization, system design, software security and transformative leadership. He most recently served at the $8.5 billion OnPoint Community Credit Union in Portland, Ore., where he oversaw core banking, information security, helpdesk and infrastructure. In his new role, he will be instrumental in leading REV through the next phases of its technology transformation.

Scott Smith

In anticipation of its launch of business products and services by year-end, Piedmont Advantage Credit Union ($426 million, Winston Salem, N.C.) hired Scott Smith as its first vice president of commercial lending. Smith has more than 30 years of experience in commercial lending, risk management, financial planning and analysis, commercial credit underwriting, new account development and regulatory compliance. He holds an MBA from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.

The $1.7 billion, Indian Land, S.C.-based Sharonview Federal Credit Union announced five promotions to and within its executive leadership team.

Steven Shaffner

Steven Shaffner was promoted to COO. Shaffner will continue to oversee talent management, employee services, learning and development, executive services and facilities, and will now be responsible for member service operations, loss mitigation, asset recovery and risk management. He joined Sharonview in 2008 as a branch manager, and in 2014 was promoted to vice president of retail delivery, overseeing the branch network. In 2017, he moved to the vice president of talent management role and was promoted to SVP of people strategy in 2019.

Rondel Cuyler

Rondel Cuyler was promoted to chief marketing officer. Previously the SVP of marketing, communications and member engagement, she will continue to oversee those functions as well as build and manage the Sharonview Cares Foundation and the credit union’s new diversity, equity and inclusion department. Cuyler joined Sharonview in 2015 as vice president of marketing and previously spent 25 years in the retail grocery industry, holding numerous director-level roles in advertising and marketing.

Blaine Lahrs

Blaine D. Lahrs was promoted to chief digital and innovation officer. Previously SVP of digital and innovation, Lahrs will add to his responsibilities the oversight of business intelligence, product development, digital experience, third-party vendor management and the project management office. He joined Sharonview in 2014 as the contact center manager and has since served as assistant vice president of member experience and vice president of member experience.

Herb White

Herb White was promoted to chief revenue officer, an expansion of his previous role as chief lending officer. White will now be responsible for the retail division, including the branches and member experience center, and will continue to lead consumer and real estate lending, Sharonview Financial Services and Sharonview’s new business services unit. White joined Sharonview in 2017 and has been responsible for leading and managing lending strategies that support Sharonview’s mission and vision.

Shaundra Warren

Shaundra Warren was promoted to the executive leadership team and will continue to serve in her role as SVP of risk mitigation. In her expanded role, Warren will continue to oversee the loss mitigation and risk management teams, and provide executive guidance on decisions affecting Sharonview’s strategic vision. She joined Sharonview in 2016 as assistant vice president of loss mitigation, and was promoted to vice president of loss mitigation in 2018 and SVP of risk mitigation in December 2020.

LEAGUES

Dave Tate

The Heartland Credit Union Association, which represents credit unions in Kansas and Missouri, inducted Dave Tate, former director of branch operations for Together Credit Union ($2.2 billion, St. Louis, Mo.) into its Hall of Fame during HCUA’s Convention & Annual Meeting. He joined Together in 1982, spending over 39 years with the credit union, and also served CUNA’s Operations and Member Experience Council before retiring in spring 2021.

The Lending and Collections Council of the Cornerstone League, which represents credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, recognized long-time executive committee member Gary Parker by announcing the Gary D. Parker Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a young professional in the credit union movement and allow them to attend the Southwest Lending and Collections Conference at no cost to them or their credit union.

Parker, who has been president/CEO of the $13.8 million 1st University Credit Union in Waco, Texas for the past 26 years, began his credit union career in 1975 at the $48 million Bison Federal Credit Union in Shawnne, Okla. At the age of 20, he became the youngest president of a credit union in the state. Parker was a founding member of the League’s Lending Council in 2001 and served on its executive committee for 20 years. Additionally, he has served on the executive committee of the Small Credit Union Council and is the current incoming chairperson, and is the president of the Central Texas Chapter of Credit Unions.

Moti Gabay

Lightico, a provider of SaaS platform to organizations including credit unions that accelerates customer journeys through automated workflows, hired Moti Gabay as vice president of global partnerships and alliances and head of its London office. Gabay previously served as vice president, global customer success and international sales at cloud optimization company Spot.io. Prior to that, he served as vice president, international commercial group at conversational AI company LivePerson.
