The CUSO LSC announced on Tuesday a team effort with five credit unions and the United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA) to distribute help to families recovering from the devastating aftermath left behind from Hurricane Ida.

In a statement, LSC said the United Way funded thousands of gift cards for struggling families and LSC along with credit union volunteers “sprang into action” to help deliver the cards to families in need of food, gas, supplies, repairs and other important items.

“Over the course of several weeks, the two organizations worked alongside credit unions to provide over 2,500 gift cards to families,” the statement said.

The five credit unions that helped out were:

“Partnering with United Way and credit unions to help ease the burden faced by families in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida has been an honor,” Libby Calderone, president of LSC, said. “I’m grateful for the caring and dedicated people at LSC who go the extra mile to partner with credit unions in serving their members and communities.”

“United Way is beyond thankful for LSC and the credit unions’ efforts to secure gift cards for struggling families across Southeast Louisiana – it was no easy feat. Because they went above and beyond to meet our request, we were able to surprise more than 2,500 households at our relief pop-ups with $100 in immediate financial assistance to help them afford their most urgent needs,” Michael Williamson, UWSELA’s president/CEO, said.
