Georgia’s Own CU to Complete Merger With Fort McPherson CU by Oct. 1
Founded in 1948, FMCU initially served military personnel, then expanded to city employees and contractors.
The $3.2 billion Georgia’s Own Credit Union in Atlanta said Wednesday that it will complete its merger with the $27.8 million Fort McPherson Credit Union, also based in Atlanta, by Oct. 1.
FMCU’s six employees operate one branch and serve nearly 4,000 members at the former Fort McPherson military base that is now home to Tyler Perry Studios.
While FMCU, founded in 1948, was initially created to serve military personnel assigned to the Fort McPherson base, it has expanded over the years to include a diverse group of members, including employees of the City of East Point, MARTA employees and contractors.
The six FMCU employees will remain in their current roles at the branch.
“Given their branch is just minutes from our downtown headquarters, we saw this partnership as a fantastic opportunity to add a hyperlocal institution that shares our passion for serving the community and providing outstanding service to its members,” Georgia’s Own President/CEO Dave Preter said in a prepared statement.
FMCU said merging with Georgia’s Own will provide FMCU’s membership with more robust products and services, better pricing, expanded digital services, more physical locations across the state and increased operating efficiencies.
Georgia’s Own currently serves more than 205,000 members.
