CU Professionals Celebrate Recent Accolades & New Positions

The DCUC inducts two into its Hall of Honor and professionals are honored for supporting local businesses.

WEST

Allen Gharapetian

The $263 million, Pasadena, Calif.-based Parsons Federal Credit Union hired Allen H. Gharapetian as vice president of marketing. Gharapetian will be responsible for overseeing the overall marketing strategy, and member and employee experience. He brings over 15 years of marketing experience focused in high-tech, high-touch industries, including software, Software-as-a-Service, Human Machine Interface, intellectual property and personal electronics. Prior to joining Parsons, Gharapetian held senior marketing roles at companies such as Clarion Faurecia Electronics, SRS Labs Inc., Targus Group International, Inc., Memorex Products Inc. and Yamaha Electronics Corporation USA. He holds an MBA from Arizona State University.

MIDWEST

Mike Huser

The $118 million Telco Triad Community Credit Union promoted Michael Huser to CFO. Huser has served as Telco Triad’s director of operations since 2013. He was previously CFO for the Boys & Girls Home in Sioux City from 1991-2012 and served on Telco Triad Community’s board of directors from 2009-2013.

Kameron Bastug

The $5.5 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa hired Kameron Bastug to the position of personal computer specialist. Bastug previously served as an information technology intern at CBE Companies in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

EAST

Frank Borawski

The $975 million, Marlborough, Mass.-based St. Mary’s Credit Union hired Frank C. Borawski, Jr., CFA as CFO and SVP of Finance. He most recently served as vice president and lead finance officer at State Street Bank, and has also held roles in the finance, treasury and audit departments within Citizens Financial Group and Brookline Bancorp. Borawski will oversee the credit union’s accounting, finance, investments, treasury, asset-liability management and financial analytics functions. He will help drive the development and implementation of the credit union’s strategic plan, and recommend short- and long-term strategies and programs to achieve the established goals and objectives. Borawski is a CFA Charterholder and has a Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Mary Ann Melchers

Mary Ann Melchers, member of the board of directors and former chairperson for the $759 million, Chesapeake, Va.-based ABNB Federal Credit Union, was inducted into the Defense Credit Union Council’s Hall of Honor. Melchers has been working in the credit union community for over 55 years. In 1965, she became a member of the credit committee at Naval Base Norfolk Federal Credit Union – an especially significant achievement considering that women were unable to obtain credit in their own name at the time. She also made history as the first woman elected to the office of chairperson of the board of directors at Naval Base Federal Credit Union.

Bob Remillard

Workers Credit Union ($2.1 billion, Littleton, Mass.) promoted Robert “Bob” Remillard to vice president of consumer and mortgage originations. In his new role, he will ensure high quality and high member satisfaction of consumer auto and home loans. In his more than 25 years at the credit union, Remillard has held managerial and executive positions in Workers’ lending, sales and consumer loan divisions.

SOUTH

Dick Ardisson

Dick Ardisson, long-time volunteer and current board vice chair for the $1.9 billion, Radcliff, Ky.-based Abound Credit Union, was inducted into the Hall of Honor on Aug. 12 by the Defense Credit Union Council for his work supporting credit unions and the military community.  Ardisson has been a member of Abound, formerly known as Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, since 1975 and served as a credit union volunteer since 1998. He is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel with more than 23 years of service and a retired Defense contractor/site manager with 18 years of service.

Casey Munn

The $1.7 billion, Indian Land, S.C.-based Sharonview Federal Credit Union promoted Casey Munn to vice president of risk management. In his new role, Munn will be responsible for identifying, assessing and managing Sharonview’s operational, financial and strategic risks. He will also ensure Sharonview has a strong compliance culture and is taking the necessary steps to remain safe and observe all regulatory requirements. Munn joined Sharonview in 1996 and has held many roles within the credit union, including mortgage loan underwriter, mortgage loan manager, loan operations manager, vice president of loan operations, vice president of real estate lending and compliance officer. He holds an MBA from Winthrop University and professional certifications in compliance, Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering and risk management.

Ron Smith

Ron Smith, chief growth officer for the $1.6 billion, Arlington, Texas-based Texas Trust Credit Union, received the inaugural award of Small Business Champion from the Arlington Black Chamber of Commerce for his “steadfast support of the black-owned business community” through his various leadership roles in the community and chamber. Through his participation on the community advisory committee for Texas Live!, a $4.5 billion mixed-use development that includes the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field, several black-owned businesses secured significant contracts within the district. He has also helped coach and mentor black-owned businesses and opened doors for them leading to new business opportunities.

LEAGUES

Washima Huq

The Cornerstone League named Washima Huq of Texas Trust Credit Union ($1.6 billion, Arlington) the 2021 Young Professional of the Year at its annual Young Professionals Conference in Dallas. Huq joined Texas Trust in 2017 as a business community engagement partner. In that role, she works to create, develop and grow community connections, and help businesses deliver financial services to their employees. Huq is a founding member of the Greater Arlington Chamber Asian Business Council, an advisory council member of Greater Arlington Chamber Women’s Alliance, a business advisory council member of Mansfield ISD’s Ben Barber Innovation Academy and an Advisory Board Member of the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA. She is also an active member of Cornerstone’s Young Professionals Group and a graduate of Leadership Mansfield and Leadership Mansfield ISD.
