6 Credit Unions, CU*SOUTH Hire & Promote Employees

WEST

Kashi Moore-Stallworth

The $6.6 billion Redwood Credit Union in Santa Rosa, Calif., hired Tshikashi (Kashi) Moore-Stallworth as a human resources leader. In her new role, Moore-Stallworth is responsible for initiatives that help ensure the organization is able to achieve success through its people and make RCU a great place to work. Under her leadership, employees will be supported in their wellness and career growth. Moore-Stallworth comes to RCU with more than 20 years of experience providing executive and mid-level coaching, professional mentorship and sponsorship to diverse groups of business professionals at organizations such as Raytheon Technology, Chevron Corporation and Novartis Pharmaceuticals.

Chris Morin

The $4 billion, San Jose, Calif.-based Technology Credit Union hired Christopher Morin as vice president of commercial banking to lead its new commercial and industrial lending program. Morin has spent the past 25 years providing Small Business Administration, commercial credit, commercial real estate and ABL financing solutions to small- and medium-sized, privately held companies in a variety of sectors including manufacturing, contracting, services, transportation and wholesaling. Prior to joining Tech CU, Morin held senior positions at California Bank of Commerce, Scott Valley Bank, City National Bank, Citibank and Cupertino National Bank.

EAST

Timothy Souza

The $305 million Alltrust Credit Union in Fairhaven, Mass., hired Timothy Souza as assistant vice president, mortgage loan originator. Souza has over 17 years of lending experience and most recently served as a senior mortgage loan officer at the $1.2 billion St. Anne’s Credit Union in Fall River, Mass.

MIDWEST

Brenda Bice

The $209 million, Fremont, Mich.-based Gerber Federal Credit Union announced four promotions.

Brenda Bice was promoted to manager of the Newaygo Branch in Newaygo, Mich. Bice joined the credit union as the corporate office branch manager in 2010. In her new role, she will be responsible for the leadership and growth of the Newaygo Branch operations including financial, compliance, and sales and service objectives. She is NMLS-licensed.

Brent Deur

Brent Deur was promoted to assistant vice president – consumer lending. Deur joined the credit union as manager of the Fremont Main Street Branch in Fremont in 2005 and was later promoted to senior branch manager. In his new role, he will lead the lending department, holding responsibility for all consumer lending, as well as the member solutions department. Deur holds the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor designation from CUNA and is NMLS-licensed.

Carla Burmeister

Carla Burmeister was promoted to senior mortgage manager. Burmeister joined Gerber in 2017 as the mortgage manager. In her new role, she will continue to lead the mortgage department, holding responsibility for construction and mortgage lending. Burmeister has served on the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors as president several times and also as treasurer and director. She holds the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor designation from CUNA and is NMLS-licensed.

Patti Scherf

Patti Scherf was promoted to senior branch manager for the Fremont Main Street Branch. Scherf joined the credit union as a part-time teller in 2001, and was later promoted to head teller and then to manager of the Newaygo Branch. In her new role, she is responsible for the leadership and growth of the Fremont Main Street Branch operations including financial, compliance, and sales and service objectives. Scherf holds the Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor designation from CUNA and is NMLS-licensed.

SOUTH

Lisa Cochran

The $10.7 billion, Jacksonville, Fla.-based VyStar Credit Union hired Lisa Cochran as chief information officer. Lisa brings more than 28 years of experience serving companies such as Humana, Softcard, Bank of America and Lockheed Martin. She most recently served as managing director/COO and head of operations technology for global consumer technology at Citigroup.

A+ Federal Credit Union ($2.2 billion in assets, Austin, Texas) hired Brandon McGee as chief digital strategy officer, a newly-created role at the credit union.

Brandon McGee

McGee has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry and comes to A+FCU from Fiserv, where he was vice president of product management for digital banking. He’s also held leadership roles outside of the financial industry at both Dell and Facebook, and has previously worked at Industrial Federal Credit Union ($283 million, Lafayette, Ind.), National City Bank and Huntington Bank. McGee holds an MBA in business/marketing from Butler University in Indianapolis.

CUSOS

James Versaw

The Fairhope, Ala.-based CU*SOUTH, a part of the cuasterisk network, announced two promotions.

James Versaw was promoted to the newly-created position of vice president of client experience. In his new role, Versaw will lead CU*SOUTH credit union partners through their onboarding process, as well as oversee their ongoing support, training and relationship development functions. Joining in 2018, his initial responsibilities were to take the lead in analyzing and renovating CU*SOUTH’s credit union conversion functions. Versaw made the transition from a math teacher career to the credit union movement in 2011 when he joined Honor Credit Union ($1.3 billion, Berrien Springs, Mich.).

Starla Honea

Starla Honea was promoted to SVP of sales. In her new role, Honea will oversee all aspects of CU*SOUTH’s internal and external business development initiatives, as well as continue to serve as a vital member of the CU*SOUTH Executive Council. She joined CU*SOUTH in 2007, and has played a significant role in helping the CUSO grow from serving just four credit union partners to over 65 in 2021.

The St. Petersburg, Fla.-based payments CUSO PSCU appointed Todd Lane and Maria J. Martinez as associate directors to its board.

Todd Lane

Lane is president/CEO of California Coast Credit Union ($3.3 billion, San Diego) and has more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in the financial services industry. He was named president/CEO of California Coast in 2014 after serving as CFO since 2009. Currently, Lane serves as director of the Neighborhood House Association and sits on the board of the San Diego State University Alumni Association. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.

Martinez has served as president/CEO of Border Federal Credit Union ($200 million, Del Rio, Texas) since 1997. She currently serves on the CUNA board of directors, and is a member of the board of both CUNA’s CU Awareness LLC and CUNA Strategic Services.

Maria Martinez

Martinez is also a founding member and vice chairwoman of the Credit Union Women’s Leadership Alliance, a founding member and the chairwoman of the National Association of Latino Credit Unions & Professionals, and a Credit Union Development Educator.

TRADES

Joseph Remy

The World Council of Credit Unions’ board welcomed Joseph Remy and Linda Bowyer as new directors during its 2021 Annual General Meeting.

Remy is president of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions and is employed as a human resource analyst in the compensation administration department at the Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago. A native of South Trinidad, he is also president of the Communication Workers’ Union, president of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and Non Governmental Organisations, and chairman of the board of governors of the Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies.

Linda Bowyer

Bowyer serves on the board of directors for the Canadian Credit Union Association and is president/CEO for First Credit Union in Powell River, British Columbia. She is also a director on the board of BC’s Stabilization Central Credit Union, and board chair of the Credit Union Agencies Alliance, an insurance partnership comprised of Cooperators, First Credit Union and Aldergrove Credit Union.
