Patty Corkery began her tenure Monday as president/CEO of the Michigan Credit Union League, succeeding Dave Adams who served in that position for 24 years.

While serving as president/CEO of MCUL, Adams also served as CEO of CU Solutions Group, a CUSO that provides technology, marketing, performance and advisory solutions to credit unions and other businesses nationwide.

The CUSG board of directors said in an April 28 prepared statement that Adams will continue as CEO of the CUSO, which is based in Livonia.

This is the first time in the organizations’ history where executive management will not be shared between MCUL and CUSG. This decision will enable Adams to focus exclusively on CUSG operations, which has grown into a large national CUSO with more than $30 million in revenue, $90 million in assets and 130 employees, according to the boards of CUSG and MCUL.

The Lansing-based MCUL will continue to own 64% of the CUSO, and Corkery will represent the league, along with MCUL Chair Heather Luciani, on the CUSG 12-person board of directors. Luciani is president/CEO of the $297 million Marshall Community Credit Union in Marshall, Mich.

Corkery, who is MCUL’s first woman president/CEO, served as the league’s COO and general counsel since August 2018. Before joining MCUL, she was a partner/attorney at the Holzman Corkery law firm for nearly 19 years.

“Throughout Dave’s tenure, MCUL has been a critical partner, a fierce advocate and a national leader for credit unions,” Luciani said in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to welcome Patty Corkery to the role of CEO. During her time at MCUL, Patty has provided exceptional leadership and has built outstanding relationships, positioning her well to lead the organization into the future.”

There are 212 Michigan credit unions, according to the NCUA.
