6 Credit Unions, Cornerstone Resources Hire & Promote Talent
ABNB FCU, Teachers FCU and Michigan’s Credit Union Trust are among the organizations announcing recent career moves.
WEST
The $3.9 billion, Vacaville, Calif.-based Travis Credit Union appointed Michael J. Levy as general counsel in late 2020. Levy has been a practicing attorney for nearly 30 years in both the public and private sector, and in some of the most complex legal fields including administrative, business, environmental and constitutional law. Levy will serve as TCU’s principal legal officer, working closely with the executive leadership team and providing leadership in all matters with legal implications, including supervision of all litigation, guidance on regulatory compliance and bringing a legal perspective to TCU’s strategic vision. Levy’s experience includes virtually all aspects of government law, including regulatory oversight, compliance and 15 years as deputy or general counsel for four state agencies, most recently at the California Department of Insurance. He is an active volunteer in the legal and local community and was recently published, having joined the author team for the 2020 Rutter Group publication of California Practice Guide: Administrative Law.
EAST
The $734.4 million, Chesapeake, Va.-based ABNB Federal Credit Union hired two employees and promoted two others.
Kimberly Mills was hired to ABNB’s commercial mortgage team as a commercial mortgage loan officer. In her new role, she will develop and originate mortgage loans, as well as supervise a portfolio of commercial accounts, loan products and deposits with the overall objective of maintaining and increasing its asset quality and scope. Mills also represents ABNB in the local community through active participation in community affairs and by participating in the marketing of its products and services. She will serve the credit union’s Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina regions. Mills is a retired US Navy service member who has worked as a loan officer in Virginia’s Hampton Roads region for 10 years.
Melissa Harper was hired as mortgage center supervisor. She brings 14 years of experience as a real estate processor in Virginia Beach, Va. In her new role, Harper is responsible for assisting the mortgage center manager with the operations of the Mortgage Center, working to maintain quality, and providing committed loan service to credit union staff, members, vendors and business partners. Her duties also include preparing files for closing and coordinating mortgage documentation.
Thomas Callan was promoted to card services manager. Callan has been a member of the ABNB team since 2012, starting as a member service representative. He previously served as loan center plastics and indirect administrator. In his new role, his responsibilities will include the daily activities, procedures, implementation, growth and development of ABNB’s card services operations.
Charlene Kitchens was promoted to regional brand manager. Kitchens has been with ABNB since 1995 as a relationship manager. In her new position, she is responsible for ensuring the sales, service and operational functions of the credit union are being performed efficiently. She also assists in marketing initiatives to increase membership, and directs strategic goals and staff development within her assigned retail branch outlets.
The $8.3 billion, Hauppauge, N.Y.-based Teachers Federal Credit Union hired Chris Lalan as chief legal and compliance officer.
Lalan brings over 15 years of experience to his new role, most recently serving as SVP and director of the legal division and a member of the senior management team for Popular Bank in New York, N.Y. In his new role, Lalan will be responsible for overseeing the enterprise risk, compliance, privacy and financial crimes teams, in addition to building out the credit union’s in-house legal department and serving as primary legal advisor to the senior management team. Lalan received his J.D. from Northwestern University, currently serves on the board of directors for the New York City Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and is an executive member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association.
The $353.4 million, Rochester, N.H.-based Holy Rosary Credit Union hired Donna West as director of human resources. West will take the lead on overseeing the credit union’s HR efforts companywide and brings nearly a decade of HR experience to HRCU. Most recently, she served as the HR manager at RiverWoods Durham in Durham, N.H., where she oversaw HR while facilitating professional development, managing all benefits and onboarding new employees. Before that, she ran HR for Anchor Insurance Managers in St. Petersburg, Fla., and ReEnergy Holdings LLC, of Latham, N.Y.
MIDWEST
The $1.7 billion, Columbus, Ohio-based KEMBA Financial Credit Union promoted Ken Blevins to chief technology officer. A 30-year technology industry veteran, Blevins began his career at KEMBA more than three years ago and soon assumed the role of vice president of technology. In his new role, Blevins will continue to oversee the traditional functions of the information technology department, but will increasingly manage strategic initiatives aimed at guiding KEMBA successfully into the future.
Credit Union Trust, a limited purpose bank established by Michigan credit unions in 2019, hired Peter Antos, CPA, as controller. Antos brings diverse experience from a variety of industries to Credit Union Trust, including non-profits, law firms and insurance companies. He also managed his own CPA firm for 14 years, where he provided a variety of accounting services to small- and medium-sized businesses. He is located in the Credit Union Trust headquarters in Farmington Hills, Mich.
The $4.86 billion, Waterloo, Iowa-based Veridian Credit Union promoted Amber Nevin to the position of senior accountant. Nevin has worked at Veridian for two years and was previously an accountant III.
LEAGUES
Cornerstone Resources – a subsidiary of the Cornerstone League, the trade association serving credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas – appointed Ryan Dold as chief revenue officer effective Jan. 25. In this newly updated position, Dold will be responsible for delivering upon the value proposition for the league service corporation, overseeing sales and pricing, and coordinating activities in support of policies, goals and objectives. The 20-year credit union industry veteran comes to Cornerstone from the Heartland Credit Union Association, where he managed the league service corporation as vice president of business solutions. Dold joined the association as director of member engagement in 2001, managing a portfolio of 160 credit union clients before being promoted to vice president of sales and then vice president of business development.
